This book is heart-warming as well as uplifting, covering as it does a subject that is much overlooked, the rural farm and the tribulations of overcoming family tragedy. The loss of youngsters due to road traffic collisions, in a close knit but geographically isolated community where the car plays such a vital role. This is not fully grasped by urban based populations for whom public transport works best. All rural folk know of, or are part of, families whose lives have been for-ever blighted and in some cases destroyed by these indiscriminately cruel events. This book, particularly for young teenagers, is ideally placed to play a positive part, particularly in schools where the ripples of these events often hit. Or on a lighter note just, enjoy the 1950's feel of the book which encourages competitive games where the tenacious Maggie finds her outlet. Zeige 2 von 2
Overstake’s novel exudes sweetness; in some ways, it feels as if it takes place in another era, as it lacks the dark edge seen in other popular YA stories. Former sportswriter Overstake’s crisp style also gives the pole-vaulting scenes authenticity and tension. The story will most likely engage younger teenage girls, but its themes will resonate with anyone who has suffered profound loss. A fine YA novel about perseverance in sports and in life. When someone tells you that you can't do something, it's human nature to try to do it anyway. "Maggie Vaults Over the Moon" is an inspirational tale following Maggie as she enters the sport of pole vaulting, and is constantly told that she can't pull off certain heights. Driven to prove them wrong, and with the backing of her loved ones, she succeeds beyond her wildest dreams. "Maggie Vaults Over the Moon" is an inspirational pick for young adult fiction collections.
See what can happen when you follow your dreams!Maggie Steele is a gritty farm girl from tiny Grain Valley, Kansas, who pours her broken heart into the daring, dangerous sport of pole-vaulting. Driven by a secret she cannot share with anyone, Maggie finds herself on a quest to soar far higher than critics think a girl should ever go. Unflinching in its exploration of teenage grief and filled with brilliant descriptions of a breathtaking, beautiful sport, Maggie Vaults Over the Moon is a powerful and rewarding story for middle-grade readers and adults.A Blackstone Audio production.
