This was a great romantic suspense - heavy on the suspense. Jake was an FBI agent who had been undercover for 3 years. He had worked his way into the Russian mafia as an enforcer when his cover was blown. He ran, taking "Little Partner", 9-year-old Nicholai, with him. The boy had been tortured by the mafia and would kill him, which Jake couldn't allow. Jake kidnapped a nurse when she was leaving the hospital so that she could patch Nicky up. Samantha was terrified but stitched both Jake and Nicky's wounds, keeping them alive.

This fast-paced book had me on the edge of my seat wondering if the gang that was after Nicky and Jake would catch them. It was even more exciting when they found out about Sami, endangering her life, too. Someone on the police department was in the Russian's pocket so Jake couldn't get help there. I liked how Sami was instrumental in finding a safe place to hide from the gang. She also got her brothers to help them. They were all in some form of police work, so they had skills and access to information the runaways needed.

I gave this well-written book 4.5 stars, rounded to 5. I really enjoyed this story and its terrific characters. Jake was a handsome FBI agent who was a little rough-around-the-edges after living undercover for so long. He was used to living alone and not depending on anybody but himself. He was distant with everyone except Nicky, who he was kind and gentle with. Even though Sami was still grieving the loss of her young daughter, years earlier, she was a strong, competent woman who stayed calm throughout the chases and gun battles. I liked Sami but her skills were too good to be true so I found some of the things she did to be unbelievable. I loved Nicky. He wanted to learn everything he could about America and was a terrific kid.

I really enjoyed this exciting book. ( )

This wasn’t just your typical romantic suspense. Yes, we have man that kidnaps woman and eventually they fall for each other but it also takes us through the grief and healing of the heroine of a past traumatic loss in her life.

Undercover FBI agent Jake Carlisle has been shot and his nine year old Russian witness has been stabbed and tortured. He needs help for them both fast and that way happens to be kidnapping a nurse leaving her shift from the hospital.

Samantha Edgars is tired after her shift. But we don’t know to the extent of how tired she is until during flashbacks of her life and the personal loss she went through is told to us. The author chose for only us to know most of these details which explained why she felt so strongly in helping the young boy.

As the hunt for who set up Jake and the danger continues the three of them all form a close bond. All of them needed each other and it was great to watch it unfold. ( )

Sam and Jake

Very good story that moves full speed ahead. No idea who to trust they have to rely on themselves. Loved the characters. ( )

Suzanne Ferrell hits the ground running and never stops in Kidnapped. From the introduction of Jake Carlisle and his young injured witness to the very last page the pace is fast and furious. The characters work their way into your heart and you can’t stand not knowing what plot twist is coming in the next chapter. This is definitely they type of book that can cause a book hang over.
Lone wolf, Jake Carlisle has baggage. His emotional scars from childhood as well as an important witness that can help him shut down a new branch of the Russian mafia. The witness is a precocious little nine year old boy. Guilt riddles our FBI hero as he deals with the results of the child being tortured which leads him to kidnap Samantha Edgars, an emergency room nurse.
Fate was on Jake’s side when Samantha left her shift early. Little did he know, she had her very own set of emotional baggage. Sami didn’t intend to go quietly into anything with her kidnapper. Being the baby in her family, her older brothers made sure she had some mad skills. Being an emergency room nurse gave her the ability to step out of herself and see things objectively, except when it came to Jake.
The fates brought these two together. They need each other for so much more than sizzle, which they have in spades. This book has me ready to purchase the next in the series, even with the book hangover; I’m ready for more Edgars’ Family! ( )
