Not on the Menu by Martha Rogers centered around Dottie Jean Weaver and Fletcher Cameron. Dottie Jean runs, and owns, The Catfish House in Calista, Mississippi. The verse of scripture this story was built upon was, "In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps". Neither Dottie nor Fletcher were planning on finding each other and falling in love. Both knew each other in high school, but both married other people and led very content and happy lives. Now their mates have both passed away and Fletcher happens to eat at Dottie Jean's restaurant and from there they both discover that they can both find love again. (But sometimes your friends have to help you along; which was what was great with all three stories.)
In Gone Fishing by Janice Thompson you will get to know Sassy Hatchett and Wendell Meeks. You will have met them in the 1st story, but in this story it is all about them. Sassy owns a bait shop and Wendell in the postman in the town. Wendell has loved Sassy from afar, but never gets the courage to do anything about it. Sassy is just as her name says, a little 'sassy', and not afraid to speak her mind. As Proverbs says, "A friend loveth at all times" and Wendell will prove his love for Sassy by just being there for her and helping her whenever he can. After a hurricane force storm in which Sassy and Wendell are stuck riding out together, Sassy will start to see Wendell in a whole new light. I enjoyed watching these two find real value in each other.
In the last story, Falling for You by Kathleen Y'Barbo, I felt myself laughing out loud many times. This I think was my favorite of all three stories. Sue Ellen Caldwell has moved back to Calista to run the town's beauty shop and Bud Briggs in the deputy sheriff in town and both these people have known each other since forever. Bud wants to pursue Sue Ellen, but doesn't have a clue how to go about it and Sue Ellen is very confused by his actions. With the help of their friends they will find themselves going to the New Year's Eve party together and a smile comes to me just thinking about those two and the party. It was a great ending to a set of stories that showed you are never to old to fall in love. ( )
