Teaches students that their gender has little to do with weather the succeed or not. ( ) • Summary of content/review: This book follows the life of the famous first-woman pilot, Amelia Earhart. It starts by describing her beginnings in Kansas, and covers the important details of her life, which eventually shaped her into the famous woman she is known as today. • Evaluation: This book format is expository, but also captures the reader’s attention by humanizing the main focus. • Target audience: 3rd-5th grade • Connection to classroom: I would use this text when introducing biographies. I would also use it in my classroom as a mentor text. Genre: biography, women in history, non-fiction RI.4.2 Determine the main idea of a text and explain how it is supported by key details; summarize the text. Classification: Non-fiction Summary of Book: This picture biography tells Amelia Earhart's story from her birth until her disappearance in 1937 on her famous flight around the world. It shares stories of events from her childhood that helped shaped the woman she became as well as the influence she had on women. It also shares here adventures as a pilot. Personal Reaction: I did not think this was a very well written book, however, I did enjoy the content. Rather than focusing on Amelia as a pilot, it focused more on her childhood and what shaped her as being a strong woman and the influence she had on women in her day. Although it was a children's book, I learned some new, interesting things about Amelia Earhart. Extension Ideas: 1. On a large map of the world, map out Amelia's last, famous flight around the world. 2. Discuss the different theories surrounding Amelia's disappearance. Have students write their version of what happened. Zeige 3 von 3 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
