In all honesty this book didn't really appeal to me in the least. I wasn't really interested in the main character Lain or any of the romance elements in the story. Truth be told the only reason why I kept reading was because I was intrigued by Steven and the mystery behind his traumatic past. The last chapters do get a bit more interesting but not enough for me to expect too much from the sequel. ( )

Pretty interesting book. I picked this one up because I actually received the second book in this series as an ARC. It is your typical dystopian young adult novel. It was fairly predictable at times but still entertaining. I like that is does address some issues that we are facing today in society such as mental illness and how some can turn to terrorism. It's pretty frightening to think that this might be possible someday. I think it would be good to be able to see a persons memories in order to help them heal but then to cross over into altering memories or controlling a person with implants is horrifying. I look forward to seeing how the story continues! ( )

Should someone be allowed to have their memories modified if they believe that it will result in a better life for them?

That’s the question posed in AJ Steiger’s novel, MINDWALKER. And let me tell you, whatever you’re thinking now will be challenged over and over again while you read this book.

I read a lot, as you probably know. But this book was one that I looked forward to being able to pick back up all day – seriously, it’s that good. With short, easy to read chapters I never felt like I was going to spend too long on any one section but then I would look up and it’d be an hour later and I’d have put away another 5 chapters. If you ask me, that’s a sign of a very good book.

In MINDWALKER, we get to know a young girl named Lain who is training to become a mindwalker. A mindwalker is a highly trained specialist who goes into the minds of their patient in order to alter or erasure memories. But it isn’t always as simple as performing a standard procedure. As we get to know Lain better, we learn of her familial connection to the beginning of mindwalking and how that affects her when she is approached by someone she has been forbidden from seeing for help.

Faced with deciding whether to go against her training and help out a new friend knowing that if she does, she will be forgotten from his mind completely or whether to play by the rules and live with the guilt that comes from not helping others, Lain must choose wisely – but it’s by no means an easy choice.

Stalking, brainwashing, lies, deceit, love, and some past-paced action will have you unable to put this book down. Trust me on this one, each twist and turn – often at each turn of the page – will have you on the edge of your seat the entire time. Every time I thought I knew what was going to happen next, something totally plot altering would happen and I would have to keep reading in order to know what happened.

I was both relieved and sad when I reached the end of this one. Relieved because everything works out for either good or bad. But the ending is fulfilling which is something that I love. But sad because throughout this book I became so attached to the characters that I feel I could have continued to follow them for longer even though I was left with a basic idea of what was going to come of them.

If you love dystopian novels that somehow resonate profoundly with the present, pick up this book today. I promise you won’t be disappointed. It’s the perfect weekend read. ( )

One of the main themes of this book is mental health and how society reacts to it. America decided that the best way to put an end to the violence that was causing war and death was to control the mental health of the population. Everyone has a type , depending on their mental stability. Type 1 is healthy and calm where as 4s and 5s are considered a burden on society with their mental disorders and unpredictable ways. The government want everyone to be a type 1 so they put people through 'conditioning' or mindwalking to make them happier and healthier. Lain Fisher is a mindwalker and she has to go through other peoples memories and remove the darkest moments of their lives so they can go on as if nothing had ever happened. I found the process of removing memories very interesting and it reminds us that every experience , good or bad makes us who we are.
