There was a hole in the sky which linked the world with Raven's and he put creatures onto the land. When they argued he took the sun from them. A baby boy was born and he was extraordinary and he grew wings on his back. The little boy brought back the sun to the land and was up in the sky with his father. This book is about the legend of how a Raven was a god who created the human race, and gave them a song. The song was what kept the peace and helped the humans remember how to love and be kind to one another. Over the years, the humans forgot the song, so the Raven took away the sun and decided to leave. Upon leaving he left a single feather, which a woman accidentally drank; from this she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. The son heard the song and brought the sun back into the world. I would say this is a folktale of Native Alaska. The sotry tells of a raven who came down to alaska and stole their sun form them. A child was soon born and was dark as a raven. The story tells of how Alaska got the sun back and the impact that the little boy had on the people there. I would use this in class for middle elementary grades, and could use it for lessons on either Alaska or folktales. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
When Raven fills the world with creatures, a song of joy bursts from his throat and brings everything to life. But as time passes, his song is droned by shouting as people greedily capture and kill the living things around them - and with an angy shriek he hides the shining sun away, leaving the people below to freeze in darkness. How his son, Little Darkness, brings light and the Raven's song back to the world is beautifully told and illustrated in an original story woven from Native Alaskan folklore Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |

When the people become disconnected and no longer show respect to each other, Raven takes the sun back. Raven’s son, Little Darkness discovers the sun and Raven must save him from a fall and returns the sun. The story is serious and informational, but the illustrations are bright, soft, and help support the story. This story isn’t one that I’d reach for as a first choice, but deserves a space in primary libraries.
