Patrick Knight is a single, retired National Guardsman who now works as a private investigator. He is a closer-a deal maker. He looks clients in the eye and tells them that he'll get it done. And he does. Patrick doesn't do "nice." At least, not anymore. After his fiancee cheats on him, he follows up with a one-night stand and a disastrous office hook-up. His business partner, Derek Alexander, sends him to the desert to get his head straight and to clean up the mess. While there, Patrick meets Elaine Merritt, and blistering sparks fly. But she's not looking for any guy nor a long-distance relationship. Patrick, though, is ready to do anything to keep her, and just when it seems that he's changed her mind, the skeletons from his past life start coming back. Contains mature themes.… (mehr)

Told in a first person point of view from only the hero's perspective gave this story a fresh new take on a romance genre story. It was interesting to see things wholly from the male perspective but while it gave this a new feeling it was to the determent of the heroine character Elaine. Elaine and Patrick really only spend about 20% of the story together and their relationship never moves on beyond insta-love. What was really problematic for me and might not be a problem for others was the amount of other women in Patrick's life. The author's writing is good grammatical and technical wise, just not to my taste. If you don't hold the same prejudices and have been missing All My Children/One Life to Live then this is a quick enough read to give a try, just make sure you read the first in the series first.

I am not sure many want to hear this, but I found this story kind of cute. Your're typical play boy, Patrick, plays center-stage to scandals and a love affair he never thought possible.

The relationship that evolves with Elaine and Patrick is typical but yet not typical. Between his mishaps and miscommunication, there are a lot of misunderstandings and lots of drama.

I can't really go too deep into the relationship area. I think I would be spoiling some things that aren't necessarily apparent right away.

I can, however, tell you that I liked this story a lot. I never found it lacking or dull. It was quirky, sometimes witty, sad, happy and sexy. That is a lot of adjectives? Well, the more the adjectives, the better the book, right?

All I will leave you with at this point, is this is a story that should be at the top or close to the top of your to-read list. ( )

I really enjoyed the characters from One To Hold, but because the characters are all the same I feel that this is more of a series than a series of standalones. So of course I had to read this one. It fills in some things from the first one, but yet it's different enough to not make you feel like you are just rereading the first one all over again.

Patrick is the guy that all girls would want. His devilishly handsome features catch you, and his nice, charming, funny demeanor keep you. Patrick goes through so many trials in this book that you just feel for him and hope that everything happens well for him in the end.

A couple of things caught me off guard, and towards the end, so did the other characters. The ending was spectacular, and could not have been any better.

I read these books based on the order they were posted on through Goodreads, however, I feel that I should have read the first one One To Hold (#1), then One To Protect (#3), then this one One To Keep (#2). But it's all good. I can't wait to get back to Derek and Melissa in One To Protect. ( )

Just finished this and I really liked it. In my honest opinion its not quite as good as One to Hold. Maybe that's because I prefer Derek to Patrick, the hero rather than the bad boy. A well, this is still a great book and I'd highly recommend it! ( )
