In October 1962, Colt Harrison and his little brother, Timmy, hatched a plan. They would run away from their Florida home, head for their aunt's house in Savannah, Georgia, and refuse to come home until their parents got back together. But things go terribly, terribly wrong. Colt's mother and father must come to grips with years of neglect and mistrust in order to recover their beloved sons, their love for one another, and their broken marriage.… (mehr)

Oh, this book was so good on so many levels. It was a walk down memory lane being set in the early 60’s and referenced so many things that brought good and bad memories to mind. The way of life, the early days of good TV, the Cuban missile crisis, etc., it was a reminder of days gone by.

It was also a parents worse nightmare and I was right there with them and all the tears, stress, emotions that the whole family was feeling during the whole storyline. I don’t like to give anything away. It’s just a great book.

This is a clean novel, no bad language, no sex, and a great message of how God can take our failures, tragedies, and turn them into something good ( )

Okay - So Dan Walsh is one of my favorite authors. I began collecting his book after becoming a book reviewer a few years back. When I see his name pop up on my email I immediately open it up and sign up to review it. Only once was I even slightly disappointed in a story written by this author. However, Dan Walsh may have out done himself in this one!!

This book is a hard to put down, heart-pounding, action packed, page-turner of a book!! It is even difficult to write an adequate review without spoiling the entire story. I am a mother of 6 children and one of my greatest fears is kidnapping (the other being a child being run over) - and being a mom that lost a baby I already am familiar with that crushing weight of loss. That agonizing moment when you know that your life has been turned upside down and all the pretense of living comes crashing down and you are left with the stark realization of a reality you DO NOT want to face or deal with. Yet life must progress, you must get up, you must take that step and put one foot in front of others - life must be faced.

Imagine a family that looks perfect on the outside, but inside there is hidden turmoil. A web of lies and deceit so carefully constructed that no one would ever guess the truth. Then two small boys hatch a daring plan to bring the walls of their Jericho tumbling down. Too bad that the enemy of this world also has a plan and things go terribly, terribly wrong.

Suddenly the parents are faced with the truth - their web of deceit has become a tangled mess of hurt and destruction. Only the Lord can deliver this couple and their son's out of the midst of this storm. Faith alone will keep them from being drown by the waves of despair and defeat. Forgiveness and love must repair the breach, it must be the threads that bring this family together and set things right. A new unity must be formed and the Father of Truth must become the anchor and center of their world.

So - you the reader are invited to have your heart strings plucked, your pulse pound, your emotions be pushed to the breaking point. And - ultimately - you are invited to ask yourself the question - what matters most in life and are you pursuing it.

Dan Walsh opens the readers eyes in a unique way to the hurting hearts of children - and how easy it is for parents to over look the tender spirits that they have been entrusted with when they have their eyes set on themselves and their own wants and desires.

Thank you to Revell for this review copy - I enjoyed it so much! ( )

Dan Walsh hits it out of the ballpark again! Once I started I didn't want to put the book down. The story compels you from one moment to the next. The family dynamics drive on to the end. He includes a time in history that effected Americans to the core and blends his tale within it. The characters are well developed and I grew to care about them to the end. The tenderness that envelopes this family will grab at your heart. If you like any of his other books, you will want to read this one! ( )

This is a book that really got me thinking about family dynamics and how the children view what is going on in families. I work with children and see things very similar in their ways of thinking and that if they this thing then this will happen in their family. Colt and his brother Timmy decide that they are going to get their family back together by running away to their aunt's house in Savannah and refusing to come back until their parents get back together. They way they do this leaves you turning pages to see what all happens next.
I received this book free for review. ( )

Deceit serves no one. When marriage is compromised by a misunderstood observation the fallout impacts an entire family. An unforgiving wife refuses to consider her husband's explanation of an innocent event, alienating him, and the family unit is broken. Scott Harrison is forced to leave his home and family, and Gina takes on a full-time job while raising the children. In an attempt to protect themselves and their family's reputation, Scott and Gina have been living a lie over a 10-month time frame, even convincing their sons to lie about the broken family. Eleven and six, Colt and Timmy embark on a bus trip to seek solace with their favorite aunt and uncle. While stopped at a diner Timmy is kidnapped, setting the stage for an FBI search for the little boy.

Set in 1962 at the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis, all of America is on high alert, keeping local law enforcement agencies and the FBI occupied with the potential crisis the world is facing. Two FBI agents are assigned to the kidnapping case, and their leads are few and far between. As leads turn into dead ends and information is waning the search for Timmy becomes more dismal.

Dan Walsh has written a compelling, dramatic and poignant novel of a broken family whose lives are further fraught with anguish due to the kidnapping of their youngest child. This novel is replete with reality. I experienced the angst of the Harrisons throughout this novel, as their lives evolved into the quest for healing and the return of their child. Their faith in God is tested and the author's nuances regarding their frustration and anxiety are exceptional. Dan Walsh has surpassed my expectations through this beautifully written, heart wrenching story of broken trust, deception and fear of the future. His information regarding the Cuban Missile Crisis is well researched and accurate. Redemption and resolution are developed with clarity and compassion. I highly recommend this novel written with depth and discernment. This is Dan's best novel thus far!
