Riotously funny? Not a bit. Occasionally mildly amusing. Sure. Mostly a time-waster for me. ( )

Author John Moe comes up with some uniquely humorous journals, lists, reviews, and more from some of pop culture’s favorite characters over the years.

Some of my favorites were the continuing ideas for halftime shows for all of the Superbowls. The Goofy and Pluto conundrum is something I even wondered about. Fonzie’s letter to the Cunninghams probably got the biggest laugh from me. The interview with Popeye and Olive Oil was messed up.

I thought I would laugh a lot more than I did. There were clever ideas but not all funny. I got all the references (because I am old) but I think some younger people will not have any idea who some of the characters are.

I was a little disappointed in this one. While I think John Moe is a talented writer and has imaginative ideas, I just wanted more of the funny. ( )

Wow, pretty funny. Based on real shows of the past and some "secrets" behind the show! ( )

Moe takes some of the most common elements in pop culture and revisits the stories through letters, drafts, and other ephemera purporting to be from various characters. My personal fave may be the Captain's Log from the television series of Star Trek (TOS). The Offspring were equally amused, even where they are as yet unfamiliar with the source material. If you like this kind of thing (I do!), you'll be entertained for moments at a time (sadly, it doesn't take very long to read)

Personal copy. ( )

Full disclaimer: I received this book as a Goodreads First Reads Winner.
I tried, I really tried...but life is just too short to continue to try to laugh at, like or even finish this book.
I understand that humor is a very personal thing. That being said this book definitely didn't hit my funny bone. The title was good; the 'curb appeal' was good, but that's about it.
I was never able to figure out the target age group for this book. Mr. Moe tried to cover too much of the pop culture timeline to make this book enjoyable for me. If you enjoy the pop culture references from the 2000's are you also going to enjoy them from the 1960's or in my case vice versa?
And the language...really? If you have to use the 'f' word mindlessly throughout your book you might want to re-think being a writer.
A huge disappointment. ( )
