Find out how to use Tableau to turn your data sets into richly interactive dashboards to share with your audience. Whether your goal is to explain a particular insight or let your audience explore for themselves, Tableau's simple drag-and-drop user interface makes the task easy and enjoyable. In this webcast, O'Reilly author Ben Jones will use an example from his new book, Communicating Data with Tableau, in which the growth of the internet worldwide is visualized in multiple ways. 1. The print quality of the images is horrible. That wouldn't be an issue except that often the author expects the reader to copy a calculation from a screenshot of a dialog window which is impossible to read. A potential workaround is to get the access to the Safari online edition which has more legible screen captures.
2. It appears that some necessary steps are elided. This could be addressed by having explicit, ordered lists of the steps required to make a particular visualization. The author has decided to go with describing the steps with a prose style, which makes it easy to miss something, even when all the steps are there.
3. This was written against Tableau 8.1 which has just enough differences from Tableau 2018.3 that it is impossible to figure out exactly where some things have been moved.
I am also not part of the target audience which appears to be readers who are new to both visualization and to Tableau. I have plenty of experience with visualization, what I was looking for was something more specific to Tableau itself. For a general introduction to visualization, I highly recommend anything by Nathan Yau. ( )
