An enjoyable mystery with some well-drawn characters and very effective descriptions of the quintessential English countryside and village in Derbyshire. As smooth and relaxing a story as the author's High Society Lady Detective series. Great pandemic reading. ( ) First book read through the Kindle app. Not sure if it was the unfamiliar interface or whether this needed some hard editing. I found some of the writing clunky and the characters lacking depth and descriptions of the English environment unsatisfying. May try another installment and see if the writing improves. Kate Sharp lives in L.A. and is a location scout. She is happy when the company she works for is employed to look for locations in England for a new Pride and Prejudice film. Unfortunately her boss Keven disappears just hours before his flight back to L.A. But with the help of a local location scout Alex, she seeks to find the murderer. Not too difficult to determine the murderer. Los Angeles-based location scout Kate Sharp is sent to England to find her boss Kevin Dunn, who went missing while trying to secure rights to film a new movie based on Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” in various village halls and country houses. She enlists the help of Alex, a local scouting consultant, and together they soon discover Kevin’s missing vehicle, and then his corpse surfaces. Certain that his death was anything but an accident, Kate and Alex both help and hinder the local authorities as they try to solve the case - before another corpse appears…. This is the first in the “Death on Location” series of (so far) seven books featuring Kate and Alex, and set mostly in rural England. As a cozy, it’s light and entertaining; I found the secondary romance story a bit annoying, but not terribly so. Ms. Rosett has a knack for creating believable characters and relationships, and she’s clearly done her research into Jane Austen and her times, which I appreciated. I’m not in any huge hurry with these books, but I will read more in the series; mildly recommended. This was my first time reading anything from [a:Sara Rosett|256977|Sara Rosett|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1299023506p2/256977.jpg]. I stumbled upon the book in a thread dedicated to discounted Amazon mystery books in a Goodreads group and decided to give it a go. I'm always a little prejudiced against "cheap" books. Even though deep down I know a high price doesn't always equal quality, I still am skeptical when I purchase a low priced or free book. I absolutely love when I get the surprise that it's ACTUALLY good! That was definitely the case with [b:Death in the English Countryside|23208153|Death in the English Countryside|Sara Rosett|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1410637056s/23208153.jpg|42751534]. Some reviewers have mentioned that it is quite obviously an English novel written by an American author, about which I do agree. The dialogue from the British characters doesn't quite ring true. However, I don't think it takes away from the quality of the story. The mystery is good, the characters are likable if not completely developed, and most of all the descriptions of the scenes bring thought of the English countryside (which is more than I can say for other American authors writing about England.) It's a great, cozy mystery and I look forward to more in the series. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

Even quaint and cozy English villages have a dark side.... Location scout and Jane Austen enthusiast, Kate Sharp, is thrilled when the company she works for lands the job of finding locations for a new film adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, but then her boss fails to return from a scouting trip to England. Kate travels to England to salvage the company's reputation. Things go from bad to worse when Kate arrives in Nether Woodsmoor, a quaint village of golden stone cottages and rolling green hills, only to find no trace of her boss. Even the rumpled, easygoing local scout they consulted, Alex, doesn't know where he might be. Increasingly worried about her boss and with an antsy director waiting for updates about the preproduction details, Kate embarks on a search that includes a pub-crawl and cozy cottages as well as stately country manors. But with no sign of her boss, she begins to suspect that the picturesque village and beautiful countryside may not be as idyllic as they seem. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
