Though book four in the When SEALs Come Home Series it is the first of the books that I have read. The setting is a small town in California where a group of ex-military has settled down and has become smoke jumpers, and no doubt all smoking hot if they are all like Joey, the main character in this book.

Joey has demons that ride him and he uses speed on the roads at night to try to outrun what haunts him. Mercedes is the deputy sheriff who writes the tickets and hands them Joey when she is manning the speed trap in town. Both have a past that impacts their courtship and has to be overcome before they can achieve their happily ever after.

There were moments in this story that were steamy, sweet, and fun. I loved the appearance of roses and rosebushes, poetry and its proper use within the story and felt like I heard just enough about some of the other characters to want to read more in this series and find out about them. (
