Val Montague travels back to her childhood home of Hemlock, Oregon, to handle the estate of her dead mother. All she wants to do is follow her mother's wishes, liquidate the assets, and leave town. Cam Nelson, a high school dropout and town outcast, has struggled to establish a small business and leave behind her "good-for-nothing" reputation. When they meet, Val's rather unpleasant trip becomes much more bearable. Soon, however, peculiar and dangerous events begin to plague her when she begins to suspect her mother didn't die the way everyone said she did. And soon Val realizes that in this eccentric, woodsy beach town, a chance for romance just might lead to death. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |

It's the story of Val. Her mother dies and she has to go back to her hometown. (Which is on the 45th Parallel, hence the title) to finalize her mother's affairs. She hasn't been back in twenty years and her trip home doesn't start as well as it could. She and her car meet up with a deer. From there Val's life gets weirder and weirder as she keeps being harassed (or attacked). The one bright thing about her trip home though is meeting Cam . They had gone to school together (but hadn't hung out at the time), and back then Cam had been known as a bad kid. Since then she's pulled herself totally up and has a candy chocolate store (mmm turtles), and one of the questions in the book is whose side is Cam on, Val's as it appears, or does she have another agenda?
That was one of my favorite parts of the novel. I truly wasn't sure which side Cam was going to end up on. With or against Val.
It was also a pretty good mystery/thriller that kept me guessing about what the heck was going on. (And there was more than one place in the novel when I said a 'what the heck' in my head, but only in the best way).
It was a good solid lesbian romance novel, and as an added bonus it turned out to be a very cool mystery and thriller as well.
I got this advanced galley through Netgalley on behalf of Bold Strokes Books. ( )
