It made me want to learn more about the Hindenburg. Highly recommend 👌 ( ) Fascinating book on the doomed last flight of the Hindenburg zeppelin from preparation to takeoff to the final catastrophic explosion and destruction in a fireball. Alternating individual stories of various passengers and crew members as the three-day journey progresses. Author posits her reason for the holocaust as one element of the story, and this gives the book an air of menace. Field of Dreams by Ariel Lawhon Using the real people who lived and died on the dirigible Hindenburg, Lawhon tells a fascinating story of what might have occurred during the Hindenburg’s last flight. Impeccable research into the passengers and crew lend credibility to the characters who include an acrobat, a family from Mexico returning home, businessmen conducting business, a spy, a murderer, a stewardess who wants out of Germany, a navigator who loves her, and a 14-year-old cabin boy among others. Her characters sparkle with life. Although we will never truly know why the Hindenburg exploded, Lawhon presents a credible answer as she relates how a dirigible stays aloft and what it is like to float 600 feet above the ocean in a luxury hotel. In the author’s notes she gives the website (www.facesofthehindenburg.blogspot.com) that details all that is known about each of the passengers and crew. This is a worthwhile site for those interested in the before and after of each of them. 5 of 5 stars. I love how the author incorporated true facts to the people in this story- who were real. It is an interesting concept of what she had to written as to what potentially happened to cause the Hindenburg to start on fire. I love how she also had various storylines so you could see different perspectives and different areas of the Hindenburg. Looking forward to more of her books. Wow, this book was fantastic! Ariel Lawhon made the flight of the Hindenburg come to life. She creates the book like a kaleidoscope, with the pages shifting between characters to form a complete picture of the journey: the cabin boy, the navigator, the american, the stewardess, the journalist. By doing this, you see the different facets of the story: betrayal, curiosity, a desire for revenge, heartbreak, love, and the innocence of youth. As the Hindenburg flies ever closer to New Jersey and disaster, the characters come to life. And when one character does the unthinkable in a giant balloon filled with hydrogen, each character will have to fight for their lives. At times heartbreaking, this fictional account of the Hindenburg disaster shows heart, strength of will, courage, vengeance, and fear of the ever encroaching Nazi regime. Lawhon stays true to the people who were aboard the Hindenburg on that fateful journey: those who did not survive didn't survive in the fictional account either, and those who did survive, survived the fictional account as well. She makes each character human, and she does a wonderful job of developing a story as to why the massive zeppelin caught fire. I highly recommend this book! keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
