My name is Charlotte, and I have a special gift: I talk to the dead. Make no mistake, I can't summon them. I'm only able to see and speak to the spirits that linger when they're unable to cross over. They're somehow weighted to the world with unfinished affairs. And for the last six years, I've relentlessly used my gift to help their lost souls. But it's come at a price. My life is dark. Feeling despondent, I've begun to give up. And in helping the dead, I've realized I haven't allowed myself to live. With no money, no place to go, and most importantly, no hope, I've decided there is only one option-to end it all. Fate is a funny thing, though. One minute, I'm about to leap to my death, and the next, I'm saved by Ike McDermott. The strong, striking soldier stopped me from putting an end to my despair. He's the kind of man that smiles and brightens an entire room. Sweet and gentle, he's my savior-and he's dead.… (mehr)

I really enjoyed this romance. If you can call crying for at least the last 45 minutes while I read enjoying. So, very angsty. Well written and flowed well. No slow spots. The whole relationship thing moved very fast and I think that my biggest problem with the story could have been solved if things had been given a little more time to play out. My biggest problem then was that I didn't care much for George, the living brother. I totally loved Ike and could really see the developing relationship between him and Charlotte. George though, when not being a bit of a loser dick was pretty much a nonentity. I'm not sure why Charlotte loved him. The author started out pretty well with him but basically gave up on any sort of characterization in the second half of the book that led me to develop any admiration or caring for him. But she kept telling me Charlotte loved him. I don't see how. Charlotte and Ike though? That relationship was fully developed and very sweet.

I will definitely be trying out more of this author's books. ( )

I just finished Where One Goes by B.N. Toler and loved it. I'm not a fan of tearjerkers so I am a bit surprised by how much I enjoyed reading this book. My nose is stuffed up and I have a headache from crying but the story was totally worth it. Do NOT try to read this in public unless you don't mind total strangers watch you turn into a blubbering mess. ( )
