I was impressed how well developed the characters and the story were. Everything flowed well, and the story actually ended without you having a million questions or feeling shortchanged, though there are enough openings for a full length story or series to come out later. I had never heard of this author before being asked to review and I am now heading to buy all the rest of her books. Don't short change yourself, go get your copy of Four Weddings and a Fiasco today. I have read novellas by Sharon Kleve previously but this was my first introduction to Kindle Worlds. Kindle Worlds is fan fiction stories inspired by books, TV shows, and comics. “The Wedding Switch” is fan fiction for the “Four Weddings and a Fiasco” series by Lucy Kevin a.k.a. Bella Andre. The “World” of “Four Weddings and a Fiasco” has the following description: “The caterers, florists, DJs, dress designers, and proprietors of the Rose Chalet—the top wedding venue in San Francisco—do more than make a bride's big day the talk of the town, they find their own true loves when least expected. Whether the next wedding bells to chime are for new Chalet staff members, Chalet staff siblings, men and women who meet at one of the Chalet weddings, or complete strangers is entirely up to you (the author)!” Abby Blackwood is a wedding planner and owner of Weddings by Abby Blackwood. I would expect a wedding planner to be absolutely ecstatic to be engaged with all the resources available to be able to create the wedding of life-long dreams and perfect planning. But as Chapter 1 opens as the bride-to-be has just lost her engagement ring and she’s not in tears or hysterics, it does make the reader want to know more about her fiancé, Derrick Knight. She’s saying all the right things about him as she talks with her Maid of Honor, Alessandra Harrington but Alessandra doesn’t seem convinced of Abby’s happiness either. Meet Abby’s fiancé, Derrick Knight, flirting with a waitress, while he’s simultaneously enlisting Hunter Price, to hire Abby’s company to plan Hunter’s wedding. Whoa! That’s an amazing favor to ask of an old high school buddy! Hunter didn’t even know that he was engaged. Oh wait, Derrick can explain everything. Hunter is going to have a fictitious bride-to-be that will be conveniently out of the country and will leave all of the planning to Hunter. Hunter is to ask Abby for her advice on everything and particularly for all of her recommendations. Essentially, Abby plans the wedding of her dreams and at the last minute Derrick explains it’s their perfect wedding and he meets a special deadline. Will there be a “Happily Ever After” on this wedding date? The characters come alive on the pages of Sharon Kleve’s stories with lively conversation between friends regardless of where they are working, living, or enjoying some leisure time. There is always delightful humor interspersed through the stories but I think the description of the collection of rarely-used items that accumulate in a bathroom vanity is the best ever! I don’t know of another author that could so perfectly describe “white fluffy cotton balls everywhere” by explaining “It looked like they’d had a pillow fight under my bathroom counter.” It’s so easy to visualize, very relatable, and it was a definite “lol” time in my reading. As an animal lover and supporter of animal rescue shelters, it is always a treat during reading of one of Sharon Kleve’s stories to learn what pets the characters will have as an integral part of the storyline or as part of one of the ‘getting to know you’ conversations. This time the pets are parakeets named Joe and Josephine and a cat named Horatio Hornblower, nicknamed Hort for short. Sometimes I think I enjoy learning the pet names even more than the character names. This is not only an appealing contemporary romance but it could be the catalyst for gals or guys to have a heart-to-heart talk with a friend when she/he is not convinced that their friend is truly happy in the midst of wedding planning. Or, if a bride-to-be or groom-to-be has mentioned a red flag(s) in their relationship but they’re trying to justify or simply ignore it. This novella is a delightful addition to the romance offerings laced with fun and a great lesson for everyone in relationships – make sure you’re in the relationship for the right reasons and that you don’t have to convince yourself or your friends that you’re happy – that you just are. For now, I hope I’ve been as persuasive as possible to highly recommend this story. I’m also going to investigate more “fan fiction” at Kindle Worlds.
