That's not science More Science Fantasy than Science Fiction, as the science part is very weak. Making the principle alien species resemble elves...didn't help. The lack of a coherent military structure onboard a military ship was also an issue for me. It's more Star Trek-ish than I like. Referring to animals as sentient, completely opaque technology, and paying very little attention to mechanical necessities. Just flat out ignore physics for fun. The romance also struck me as odd, but it was consistent. They like singing, but only 10 people across four planets can sing?!?!? They don't have imagination?!?!?!!? I just don't understand the society and race that was created here. The early part of the book meanders, then the action starts to pick up and it becomes clever. It was generally well-written. Aside from fanciful moments of illogic and Mary-Sue, it's not a terrible book. But I'm not getting the next one. It was romantic yet action filled. The good guy aliens were honourable yet flawed. The hero had just enough alpha about him to satisfy yet could let the heroine take the lead in her dealings with the politicians. You can get the ebook version of this for a very cost effective price and I would recommend it as light and easy reading. Better still it is the first book of a trilogy with similar characters, all good reads. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
Gehört zur ReiheClass 5 (1) Auszeichnungen
Some secrets carry the weight of the world. Rose McKenzie may be far from Earth with no way back, but she's made a powerful ally--a fellow prisoner with whom she's formed a strong bond. Sazo's an artificial intelligence. He's saved her from captivity and torture, but he's also put her in the middle of a conflict, leaving Rose with her loyalties divided. Captain Dav Jallan doesn't know why he and his crew have stumbled across an almost legendary Class 5 battleship, but he's not going to complain. The only problem is, all its crew are dead, all except for one strange, new alien being. She calls herself Rose. She seems small and harmless, but less and less about her story is adding up, and Dav has a bad feeling his crew, and maybe even the four planets, are in jeopardy. The Class 5's owners, the Tecran, look set to start a war to get it back and Dav suspects Rose isn't the only alien being who survived what happened on the Class 5. And whatever else is out there is playing its own games. In this race for the truth, he's going to have to go against his leaders and trust the dark horse. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |

While there are a few instances of surprisingly well-thought-out sci-fi concepts that I haven't seen being considered before even in harder sci-fi, in general, this violates all the rules of sci-fi.
It's nothing more than a somewhat interesting backdrop for a pretty cheesy romance story and some friendship dynamics with an AI companion.
All clichées apply.
While it certainly doesn't deserve any originality or consistency awards, it was at least entertaining.
Low 3 stars. ( )
