Lark and Ash, elementals with Earth magic, are captured by the Enders from the Pit—in the first story they killed four Enders there and the price of killing an Ender is death—so are being taken back to the place where those with fire abilities live, for their execution. This is a place where people go swimming in lava. The stakes are raised as not only does she have to get Ash out of there, but rescue a childhood friend and according to the mother goddess, a whole lot of others. And in this one she picks up a familiar, the cat from the last book who wants nothing to do with Lark. We’ve also got an interesting bad person who I expect we’ll be seeing in the next book. I’m definitely enjoying the series and seeing Lark get out of some pretty impossible situations; at least most of the time. She’s kick butt, however not invincible, as well as compassionate. Her relationships with others, especially creatures not accepted by many, make her really likable to the reader. I don’t believe she’s prejudiced against anyone or anything that hasn’t done her any harm and she’ll go out on a limb for someone even when she has no reason to. And I really like Peta, her familiar. She makes a great addition. One thing bothers me and that's the resolution between two sides of a drama. They can't communicate with each other so how are they going to pull that one off? keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
Gehört zur ReiheThe Elemental (3)
""My name is Larkspur, and I am an Elemental." My people use the power of the earth to sustain life and defy our enemies. I should be at my father's side as a royal princess. But as a half-breed, bastard child, that isn't going to happen. In a world of lava and fire, I am about to face my hardest trial yet. Not one of strength, or power, but intrigue and manipulation. However, my tolerance level for anyone outside of my family is at an all-time low, and the queen who rules the Pit expects complete obedience. As Ash's life is held in the balance, I have just three days to prove his innocence and mine. This place holds more than a scorching heat; new foes, traitors, and creatures from the depths of the lava are all trying to keep us from surviving. The only question left. . . Can I get us all out without being burned alive? Welcome to the Pit. The series isn't really anything new in the genre, the same old fantasy tropes (The Chosen One, quest through different lands, evil foe who has spread through the land and must be defeated, etc) appear throughout - but Mayer hits all the right notes with her portrayal.
Firestorm sees Lark and Ash take on the Salamanders (the Fire Elementals) in their home, the Pit. The novel starts with them being arrested for their roles in the deaths of the Salamanders that occurred in the first book, Recurve.
Peta makes a return in this one, as does Cactus, Lark's childhood friend. The Spirit Element is explored a bit more - both through Peta's first charge, a Spirit user and the reveal of the villain Blackbird who also can use Spirit. Plus
