This volume tells the story of social psychology, its history, concepts, and major theories. Discussing the classic studies that have defined the discipline, it introduces social psychology's key thinkers, and shows how their personal histories spurred them to understand what connects people to people, and the societies in which we live. Taking us from the first ideas of the discipline to its most cutting-edge developments, it demonstrates how social psychology remains profoundly relevant to everyday life. The book does not expect any level of pre-knowledge of the subject but, because of its overview style, it is more reassuring than detrimental if a known area is covered. This book goes from the early days of Social Psychology, in the wake of the second World War, to the latest thinking. It, obviously, does not give enough information to be considered a major text book but, is quite sufficient for the interested amateur.
If you have ever wondered how people can act as they do; are you confused by terrorists, amazed at how far people will go along with a preposterous idea, amazed at people's ability to seemingly hold a variety of views at odds with each other? Then this book will help you to understand what is going on. (
