I liked this because in a way it remindede me of Rizzoli and Isles, so I wasn't really surprised to find out it was actually based on that. I found Nora to be a little too robotic though, she reminded me of early Seven of Nine understand of human behavior, so it felt a little wooden here. That being said, I was still really okay with it at the moment. I know someone who's a little gun shy on relationships too, but it honestly made me think of her a little. lol But once again, this is a story thats more about the human connections and behaviors and its very low on the medical drama for a medical based story.... which im still not sure how I feel about. lol ( )

I was hesitant to read this book for several reasons... I saw all the great ratings and reviews and was immediately skeptical. I also read the author's first published book many years ago and didn't care for it much at all - again for several reasons. And lastly, I'm still not sure how I feel about published fan fic when it's so very obviously fan fic. I regularly debate this last one with myself and friends. It certainly makes me much more critical of the published version, at the very least.

With all that right out there, I enjoyed this book a lot. I have a soft spot for well done Rizzles fics (Rizzoli and Isles) and I thought the author did a great job of capturing the spirit of those characters. I'm also pretty sure that if I had no idea who the characters in this book were based off of, I'd still have had a very enjoyable experience - maybe even moreso. I don't think I would have really gotten why Nora was so out of touch with popular culture - unless I missed that in the book, which is possible I suppose.

I thought the protagonists had a good deal of depth - which doesn't seem to happen as often as it should in published fan fic - and the secondary characters weren't flat either. The dialogue was good and flowed well and the story arcs were interesting. I liked pretty much the whole damn thing. I wish it had been different enough from the show that I would have been able to not see Jane and Maura and everyone else in the characters but it was a good, fun read. I enjoyed the author's voice which seemed so much different from her first book.

I'm glad I finally caved to peer pressure and read Blurred Lines and I honestly look forward to reading the next in the series. ( )

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. I was struck by the fact that you don't see a lot of female characters like the two protagonists. I mean, Kelli is a foul-mouthed, asskicking cop with a heart of gold hidden beneath her brash exterior and Nora is ... basically Spock, if Spock were a surgeon with an active sex life and a pet curly-haired pig. Familiar enough character types, but it was super refreshing to see them in the form of women. And the relationship they build based on kindness and mutual support is so sweet, especially considering how guarded they both are when it comes to feelings.

As someone who loves and sometimes loves to hate Grey's Anatomy, I was thrilled with how things played out with the bitter resident Nora once had an ill-advised fling with. She kept it professional and stamped hard on his drama, exactly the way I always yell at the screen for Grey's characters to do. ( )

This is the first book I've read by Williamson. After reading and enjoying the few blogs she posted on Womenwords.org, I became curious about her skills as a storyteller. I'm glad I fed my curiosity because I like her style. Blurred Lines is one of those down to earth, feel-good stories. Kelli and Nora's journey reinforces the sage advice of "Your partner should enhance you." Kelli and Nora are fixers in their own right, Nora from a professional perspective and Kelli from a situational one. By situational I mean that although Kelli is "rude, crass, insufferable, and unpredictable" (as Nora puts it) she's committed to getting the best outcome when life gets messy. In this story, it's Nora who needs more fixing, and I'm glad she accepted Kelli's help with minimal angst. I'm disappointed, however, that Phineas didn't have a bigger role. With all the great one-liners this story has, Phineas should have been a prime target of at least a few of them. ;) ( )
