At 600+ pages, I was a bit daunted when I started reading Love, Greed and Lie$. Once I read the first few pages however, I was hooked, and size no longer mattered. It took me 7 hours (I read fast), and I finished Harper’s book in one day. I was blown away by the characters – so real they could have been sitting next to me. The story line was something I could visualize happening (and am sure has happened in some families). Harper is a master at writing a very interesting and believable story and she offers a history lesson as well. I enjoyed the photos and narrative about some of the actual places in the author’s home town of Lockport, NY. When she mentioned the bridge and the restaurant in the story, those photos gave me a comforting sense of reference. This book spans five generations of a family based in Lockport; the hardships of some and the greed of others. That means there are characters we will love and those we will hate, but they are all equally interesting. I loved this book and though seriously in need of some sleep, I’ve ordered the sequel and am eager to continue the saga. ( )
