**I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own and not influenced by my source.**
I won't lie, I thought this was going to be a simple, straightforward high school romance. Boy meets girl who he thinks is out of his league and high school drama ensues (like a love triangle)--SO NOT THE CASE!
While this book started off that way, it definitely shifted to a darker and more realistic edge. It gets gritty and real and Liana Key does a great job of making the characters evolve.
Take Magdala for example. I honestly didn't care much for her before the "major event". She seemed like a one dimensional character who didn't impress me that much. The same for Nathan. But after that event, they truly evolve as characters and it made me want to keep reading to see how they would handle whatever life threw at them next. The story becomes more of a coming of age one with a dash of romance on the side.
Flynn on the other hand, I loved from the get-go. He was so intriguing and instead of disliking him I really grew attached to his character.
There is more to this novel than "petty" high school drama and I really enjoyed the road this story took! Can't wait to see what happens to them in their next instalment!
