In Chill The Bones, we meet up again with Karl and Marte who first appeared last year in Sten Ostberg's short story (Kindle Single) Blood Ran Cold. Though not really necessary, I urge you to read that one first, simply because it's a terrific story and you'll have a bit more background on Karl and Marte.
Via video link, Karl and Marte watch in horror as a masked intruder enters their daughter's nursery, leaves the babysitter for dead and disappears with baby Nadina. They are told if they contact the police their daughter will die. There are no demands for money. So what does the intruder want?
This story grips you from the first sentence. It's action packed and not for the faint of heart. Despite the fact that you only have 100 pages here, the author provides you with a complete story that has realistic characters, vivid descriptions so you can imagine the locations and you can visualize the action taking place. I was shocked when the motive for the kidnapping was revealed. It was completely unexpected. Riveting from start to finish, I read this in one sitting. It's dark and twisted but also very emotional, and it is incredibly well plotted and written. I'm still hoping for a full-length novel by this talented Norwegian author.
