I was first drawn to this book by the cover. Who doesn't adore a blue haired fairy?! The cover art is really beautifully drawn, and helps you get into the story. Now, because the cover is so superb, I would have liked more of the same art throughout the book. Chapter doodles, character bios at the end, would have made this story a lot easier to follow.
So, the story takes place in Brandydook, a magical Pixie Kingdom, not far from a human city. Brandydook, seems like a really cool place, and I wish that the author would have slowed the pace of the book down, so you got to see more of the characters, and the Brandydook Kingdom. I found that some of the names were a tad hard to pronounce, and that's why I think it would make it easier if there were illustrated bios in the back.
Overall, I thought it was cute, but you could definitely tell this was for children, and possibly the authors first book. I felt that the story was a bit rushed, definitely needed more character interaction, and it did not make sense as to how Buttercup knew what streetlamps, cars, etc were if she never saw a human, or had very little knowledge of them. It would have been more interesting if she didn't already know what they were and tried to figure them out.
As for the human family that owns the dog, I hate them. They seem so mean and nasty, and absolutely spoil Wendy. I really do not want to know what Wendy is going to do to them in the next book. T_T
This book is more geared towards children, or middle school kids, and I think they will really adore this story. Escaping the Prince has the potential to be a really good series, and it will be fun to see where Lorraine takes this as well as seeing how her creativity and writing improve.
Definitely recommend this to anyone that enjoys a quick read, or just loves faerie / pixie adventures.
