The message of this biography is that Cal Ripken Jr. never stopped giving up and he thinks you shouldn’t either.
I enjoyed this biography for several reasons. The main reason is beause the point of view. Cal Ripken Jr. decided that he wanted to tell his story in his own words to anyone that wanted to listen. He made sure they were aware of the bad time and the good times throughout his life, which is quite hard for a famous individual to do. It was also interesting to see how he viewed the moments of his life, how he realized that cheating was wrong, and even how he felt during the hard times of his career.
I also enjoyed this book because the way it is set up. There are illustrations and pictures on every page, some pages have several paragraphs while others have very few sentences, there is a time line on the bottom of some pages to give the reader an accurate sense of Cal Ripken Jr.’s life and accomplishments. The way this biography is set up, in my opinion, positively affects how the willingness of the reader to learn about Cal Ripken Jr.. All the textual features make this book pleasing and inviting to read, which is very important for this type of book for young readers ( )
