Saving Jason is the story of David Merrow, a PR man, and Jason Garton, owner of a coffee shop. This is told in third person through both David and Jason’s pov.

Saving Jason is a slow blossoming romance that takes place over the holidays. Don’t expect a lot of action, because there isn’t any. David is tasked with finding a soup kitchen that can be used to improve the image of his company. Luckily the coffee shop he frequents is owned by Jason who happens to volunteer at a soup kitchen. With Jason’s help, David is able to complete his project, while at the same time spending time with Jason.

I liked the slow development of David and Jason’s relationship. David has difficulty getting Jason to open up and so he takes it upon himself to start asking questions. Jason hasn’t told anyone about himself, the only ones that know are Jason’s ex-wife and his son. Jason is filled with guilt over his past bad choices and because of his age, mid-forties, he’s resigned to remaining alone. He also tends to be anxious and isn’t sure how to deal with his attraction to David. It’s good that David is proactive. David is outgoing but dedicated to his work. He’s not much of a relationship person until he meets Jason. The author did a good job creating Jason’s insecurities, I found them realistic. I also liked the way his personality was revealed through David’s actions. Jason needed to be wooed, and that was what David did. I could see them as a couple. I did have a bit of uncertainty about David in the beginning, because he seemed to change personalities after the first or second chapter. It didn’t feel like his personality went through growth as much as what he was like in the beginning wasn’t what he was like later in the story. It didn’t seem as if his personality was consistent. Whereas Jason’s was slowly revealed. So, Jason was my favorite character of the two men.

There is sex in the story and it happens at the appropriate time and is very romantic. It suited Jason’s personality to have the sex happen when and the way it did.

Saving Jason is easy to read and flowed well even though it was slow paced, but the pace didn’t bother me. There are some Christmas elements in this story, especially the romantic date in New York city, which was very descriptive and easy to imagine. However, there is the mention of Trump Tower, which ruined the story for a while until I could get my mind off it. The book ends with a sweet HEA. I would read more about this couple. I give this book, 4 Stars

Christmas and the holiday spirit are the focus of this story from the very start, and in more than one way. David is a PR guy and may not be entirely enthusiastic about his boss’s idea of using a soup kitchen to spruce up their law firm’s image over the holidays, but once he starts to work on the project, he runs into Jason and his perspective changes. Yes, the soup kitchen and the work they both do there is still significant, but their new relationship soon takes center stage.

David has a job, an apartment, and a loving (if somewhat overwhelming) family. When he begins to look for a soup kitchen willing to partner with his employer to get some publicity, David suddenly sees the homeless in a very different light. He also gets a lot closer to Jason, the owner of the coffee shop where David grabs breakfast-on-the-run every weekday morning. As the project develops and they begin to know each other better, David only becomes more curious about Jason every time they meet.

Jason is not a happy man. He has a well-run business and dedicates a lot of his time to helping those less fortunate than him, but he has a sad past and not much of a social life. Jason is determined to be a good guy, but he can’t even admit his need for intimacy until he has found the courage to come out to David. There is a lot to discover about him, and I enjoyed his and David’s slow burn romance.

If you’re looking for a mostly drama-free, sweet, warm holiday read about two lonely men who decide life is more fun when they are together, then you might like this novella.
