Moon Knight (2016-) #8 - Greg Smallwood, Wilfredo Torres, James Stokoe, Jeff Lemire, Francesco Francavilla
The endings are always sort of mind blowing for me: they make sense, but they seem to come out of nowhere at the same time. They also are cliffhangers that lead into the next issue - although I can never guess quite where they're going until I read that issue.
Still, I enjoy getting to that ending, and I enjoy reading the next issue. And the issue after that. And thus the vicious cycle starts, where I with with baited breath for the next issue.
Even as this explores the continually fragmenting mind of Spector - and his other personalities - it feels like it's all leading to something: a mystery for him to solve, and an aspect of the story that might draw this story to a conclusion. (There's only so much treading water I can take before I bail, even if it does touch me very deeply on some level in this particular narrative.)
Brilliant, strong art, and a rather delicate exploration of mental health issues: everything is overly dramatized and some of these issues are garishly, vividly drawn, but it's all part of how Spector distorts his world even as he navigates the world.
One more month? Sighs. Yeah, I should be used to it, but it's still so hard sometimes. Off to distract myself with more comics!
