Remember Hawkeye? No, not that Hawkeye - your favorite Hawkeye, the former Young Avenger, the butt-kicking hero who had to save that other Hawkguy all the time and basically keep his life in some semblance of order. Yup, you know her, it's the dazzling Kate Bishop - making her solo comics debut! Kate is heading back out west and returning to Los Angeles, with her bow and arrow and P.I. badge in tow. There are crimes to solve and she's the best archer to handle 'em! The City of Angels has a new guardian angel. This is Kate Bishop like you've never seen her before, in a brand-new saga that really hits the mark!.… (mehr)

Hawkeye. My girl. I liked her enough in Young Avengers to pick up Fraction's run on Hawkeye, and it was there that I fell in love with the eternally messy Kate Bishop. Now Kate is striking out on her own, living in Los Angeles and at least attempting to get Hawkeye Investigations off the ground. Soon Kate is on a case on behalf of a harassed young woman, getting her own crew of sidekicks and fighting a dragon with Jessica Jones. Imagine if Veronica Mars had traversed different dimensions as a teenager and was an ace archer before starting her career as a private investigator.

Kelly Thompson's writing captured a lot of what I liked about previous comics featuring Kate, while also bringing her forward, into a starring character. Leonardo Romero's art is reminiscent of David Aja's and that matches the noir style of the book.

I loved the introduction of Kate's inadvertent new friends, they're fun and sparky, helping from the background where they can. I also loved the appearance by Jessica Jones. Her inclusion felt very natural, of course she would help out a struggling PI and fellow mess.

The first six issues were fun, sharp and exactly what I wanted. I can't wait to read more.

I laughed so much reading this. Kate’s narration is my favorite thing about this new arc. The art is decent, what I’m used to with the Hawkeye books I’ve read, but Kelly Thompson’s writing is the standout.
Since “super hero slash private investigator is the new hotness,” and more importantly, she’s following leads to her father, Kate is trying her hand at PI work, sans license, because she’s broke. Her first case is pretty good, although there’s one major plot element that doesn’t make sense to me. But the funny commentary and new friendships formed won me over.
My favorite case is the one she works on with Jessica Jones later in the book. “I thought you found crossovers confusing, Harkins?” you might say, in a high-pitched, annoying voice. To you I say, “Hey. Pipe down. They’re OK when I say they’re OK,” because that is a superb comeback.
Anyway, seeing these two work together was lots of fun. I even used a crossover reference point I got from watching Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. when I needed it. So perhaps the conclusion I should be drawing is that I really should dedicate my life to all things Marvel, and then I will know all.
Yeah, probably not.
But this was quite fun, and I’d love to see more of Kate and Jessica working together. Whether or not that happens, this volume gives me high hopes for what comes next in the series. ( )

I love Kate Bishop. She's flawed, impulsive, and gets by on sheer tenacity rather than critical thinking at times, but her heart's in the right place and she's completely awesome. I adore her. I'm thrilled she has her own series now. I had lost track of her since Fraction's Hawkeye run but it was really easy to pick her story back up.

In many ways, this harkens back to the LA Woman storyline from Fraction's run. Kate is broke in LA and trying her hand at the PI business (sound familiar?). It was really great to see her again. She fell flat on her face a few times, but gets right back up, because she's Hawkeye. There's a creepy ass mind-controlling cult, and a bigger mystery of trying to find her father.

Definitely worth a read. This made me happy. ( )
