From his humble beginnings in Tupelo, Mississippi, Elvis Aaron Presley went on to become one of the most famous figures in pop history, sexily swiveling his hips on TheEd Sullivan Show(to parents' consternation); making his mark in movies such asJailhouse Rock; and finally performing in glitzy Las Vegas nightclubs. Rediscover the highlights of the King's career in pictures that capture all these and many more precious moments. The earliest photos show Elvis as a child, and portray the beginnings of his career, including his first recording sessions and TV appearances; they also reveal more personal dimensions of his life, including his family and girlfriends. Follow him during his years in the army (photos show him undergoing a medical examination and getting the required crew cut); as he turns into a movie star; and into his final decade. An illuminating introduction and detailed captions put the images in context. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |

The book is organized chronologically. Following a 4 page introduction, Chapter 1, "The Early Years," covers his childhood, his early performances, his appearances on the Ed Sullivan show and Steve Allen show, and his days recording with Sun Records. Chapter 2, "Elvis in the Army," portrays his induction, and photos from places he was stationed, in the US and Germany. Chapter 3, "Movie Roles," is filled with stills from his many films. These include "Love Me Tender" (his first film, from 1956), "Loving You" (1957), "Jailhouse Rock" (1957), "King Creole" (1958), "GI Blues" (1960), and "Blue Hawaii" (1961), through the 1970 documentary "That's the Way It Is". Chapter 4, "The Final Decade", shows images of his late- career performances, his wife and daughter, and his Graceland estate and his private jet. The book concludes with a discography, filmography, and bibliography, followed by a useful index to names, locations, and events. ( )
