This isn't a complete story, simply the beginning of one. "Vol. 1" in the title is a giveaway. In a longer work, the rambling style could have worked. As it is, it feels like the author wasn't sure where he was going with the story. And because of that, I did not become enough engaged with any of the characters to care to read any more of it. ( )

**I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own and not influenced by my source.**

Although I really appreciate the satire concept, this book was just not for me.

I had a hard time keeping things straight as I was reading this. Like another review on Goodreads suggested, read this in a single shot to make sure you don't get lost. I read this in two sittings, only a couple of hours apart and I had to go back a few pages to make sure I was on the right track during that second session.

This story jumps around a lot between characters and places; and at one point so did the narration POV. It could have just been the format I was reading it in (sometimes page breaks etc are lost in eBook formatting) but that really confused me. I did some backtracking when that happened but that didn't always work for me.

Interesting start

This is an interesting start to a story that is designed to hook the reader into the Americosis ebook. It does have a bit of crudeness in it with the a character hung like Jonny Holmes, which didn't seem to add much to the story, although it may tie in later on. I like how he ties in the issues of evolution vs creationism, global warming and evangelical vs science. This piece of the story doesn't take the reader far enough into the book to know the true plot and what the main characters will be fighting. If you like the Apocalypse Weird books then you will probably like this, however, you will have purchase the rest of the story. ( )
