Peter Kalmus's Being The Change has some truly excellent portions but I would not rate it as one of the best. He included some very good material and I enjoyed reading about the ways he adapted to a very low carbon lifestyle. However he veered off course I thought with his promotion of meditation and other practices. Not that I am against meditation but that is not what I was looking for in a climate book. Still I have to say that I hope more people will read his book. If one is only going to read one book on climate change this might not be the one. ( ) By far the most inspirational book on walking the walk of low-carbon living. Biking to work, growing a lot of food at home, picking up grocery store discards, going beyond composting to "humanure" -- what's not to like? And he made a no-fly pledge before COVID. There's even a short documentary video out there about the author. Plus he volunteers with the CItizens Climate Lobby to push for carbon pricing. Alarmed by drastic changes in the Earth's climate systems, the author, a climate scientist and suburban father of two, embarked on a journey to change his life and the world. He began by bicycling, growing food, meditating, and making other simple, fulfilling changes. Ultimately, he slashed his climate impact to under a tenth of the US average and became happier in the process. Being the change explores the connections between our individual daily actions and our collective predicament. It merges science, spirituality, and practical action to develop a satisfying and appropriate response to global warming. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
