Interesting to come back to this book as an adult. I noticed so much this time that I'd not seen before. There has been a lot of discussion about Johnston borrowing from Maud Hart Lovelace's Betsy Tacy books in her Keeping Days series. There's one line in this book that jumped out at me, "Paul was in one of his mountain-toppling moods."

The thing that really struck me this time, though, was how many of the plot elements were first cousins to the ones in The Keeping Days. Still an enjoyable story- the family of talented artists is a congenial one. ( )
