This is what looks like the first story in a new cycle of the ‘Of Dragons and Wolves’ series. This one is centered around Crystal Mountain, and has a dragon clan fighting a wolf shifter pack just like in the first eleven books set on Black Mountain. Much to my amusement, Duncan (the local high dragon) knows High Dragon Aris of Black Mountain and exchanges leadership tips with him via e-mail. Too cute! Duncan’s plan is to use the proven successful way of creating peace by mating some of the members of his clan (including himself) to wolf shifter omegas. Unfortunately, the local pack has Clyde as an evil alpha, who is not at all onboard with that plan and does everything in his power to sabotage Duncan’s efforts. All in all I think this is a nice variation on the series theme and an interesting way of keeping things fresh.

Duncan has only recently become high dragon, and he had to fight the previous holder of that title to ensure the clan has a just leader and a better future than fighting the wolf pack at the foot of their mountain indefinitely. He is determined to make peace work, and prepared to take an omega wolf as his mate. Not expecting anything other than a “mating of convenience”, he is shocked to find that Joey is actually his true mate. The omega is way too young, and after keeping a secret from Duncan, he isn’t even sure if he can trust the man, but the draw is undeniable.

Joey may be an omega, but he has the courage of two alphas. Determined to ensure his and his friends’ safety, he goes against his alpha’s express wishes, escapes his guards, and manages to warn Duncan of Clyde’s evil plan. He was not supposed to be one of the omegas to leave (since Clyde wants him for himself), but that doesn’t stop Joey. He can only hope that Duncan will take him as well; he will do almost anything to get away from the creepy alpha. When he discovers exactly how gorgeous Duncan is, he desperately hopes they will mate sooner rather than later.

If you like the ‘Of Dragons and Wolves’ series with its dragon clans and wolf packs who need to learn to live together, if you like reading about an older dragon taking a younger wolf as his mate and finding love instead, and if you’re looking for a fun read with some very hot man-on-man action, then you will probably enjoy this novella.
