Marion Halligan sets out to trace (by car) the pilgrim routes to Compostela. She doesn't quite make it and most of the book is focussed on the French sections of the routes. She writes of the places, the stories attached to them and the food they eat along the way. Her writing captures the essence of southwest France and the unhurried pace of her prose seems in tune with the theme of the book. (
