Psychologist Grace Callahan has no idea that she has a secret--one worth killing for. But when she finds out one of her clients has been murdered, she quickly realizes that the computer security specialist wasn't simply suffering from paranoia. Detective Nate Quinn has just been cleared for active duty after a bombing killed eighteen people, including his partner, and left him dealing with PTSD. His first case back on the job involves the murder of Stephen Shaw, and his only lead turns out to be an old friend, Grace Callahan--and her life is in grave danger. Someone believes Shaw gave his psychologist information before he died. Information they are willing to kill for. With her signature pulse-pounding suspense, Lisa Harris takes readers deep into the heart of fear in this race against the clock.… (mehr)

Genre: Suspense, fiction.

My Rating: 3 and 1/2 stars.

Recommendation: 16 up.

My favorite character/s: The characters were nice. My favorite character was Paige, she was there for Nate, she was a minor character but seemed to support Nate and Grace, she was a friend, partner, back-up. While I enjoyed reading about Nate, Grace, and the others Paige was my favorite character!

My Verse for Paige is Proverbs 27:6
Faithful are the wounds of a friend; profuse are the kisses of an enemy.

My thoughts: I enjoyed this book but I felt like the characters were underdeveloped leaving the book with a lack of depth though it was a nice read. ( )

Topics to consider: murder, cancer, divorce, religion, and death.

A Secret to Die for is a fast-paced, intriguing novel about murder, hacking, detectives, and healing after loss. I felt like I could barely put it down! The storyline is constantly changing and developing – you hardly know what is coming next! The main characters are very likable, but not your typical, picture-perfect individuals.

The only part of this story that is predictable is the romance, but the author did keep me guessing for a while. This book is considered a romantic suspense, so there are prominent moments of romance mixed in with the action. Although I’m not always the biggest fan of romance, this one is very well done. It is sweet without being overwhelming. Another undertone this book has is a religious one, but that is also done in a way that doesn’t overwhelm the reader.

One of the most interesting parts of this book to me was the real elements that are sprinkled in the story. I actually learned some things about the systems that run the United States and was pleasantly surprised at the book’s details when I began to research into it.

The only part I didn’t like about this book was its abrupt end of action. Although the romantic aspect came to a natural conclusion, the action and main conflict cut off rather quickly at an intense time. It was still good, but I would have liked it to be drawn out a little more.

If you enjoy suspense, action, detectives, and terrorists, this is the book for you! Not only does it have a fantastic storyline, but it also shows that healing can be found even when it feels like all hope is lost.

Title: A Secret to Die For
Author: Lisa Harris
Pages: 336
Year: 2018
Publisher: Revell
My rating is 4 out of 5 stars.
Detective Nate Quinn has just returned to active duty after being sidelined to recover from an explosion that killed his partner and other officers while working a case. He is still grieving the loss and suffers from survivor’s guilt. His first case upon returning is that of Grace Callahan. He knew a Grace Callahan in college, and they had been good friends, but over time have lost touch. Could this be the same woman? He had romantic feelings for her back then, but she chose his best friend, a man he has also not spoken to in ten years. Can he work this first case without his PTSD occurring?
Grace Callahan is a psychologist, having returned to her home town about a year ago. One of her client’s has been suffering from paranoia, thinking someone is out to kill him. Grace has tried to work with him to alleviate his fears. She receives a strange phone message from him, and then shortly thereafter she is notified that her client has been found dead. At first, the police think his dead a suicide. Grace isn’t so sure. When the detective assigned to the case arrives, Grace is surprised to see her old college friend Nate. He suggests searching her office for clues that her client might have left there as per his phone message. Upon arriving at her office to go over his file, she finds her office has been ransacked. As the two try to uncover the clues left by her client, danger awaits.
Grace and Nate are both grieving and help one another emotionally as each can identify with the grief the other is experiencing. Like all of Lisa’s books, faith appears in the story naturally as a part of the lives of her characters. It isn’t force-fed down the reader’s throat. The action is intense, but the romantic angle is there too. The ending was a little abrupt for me, but the novel is still well done and an entertaining read. I’m looking forward to her next suspense-filled, exciting story!

If you love romantic suspense, you are in for a treat with A Secret to Die For by Lisa Harris.

Still reeling a bit from tragedy, psychologist Grace Callahan finds herself the focus of a dark plot. Detective Nick Quinn, still affected by trauma of his own, can’t help wanting to protect her, an old college friend. Murder, secrets, and a chance to become reacquainted drive their story forward at a fast, twisted pace.

I enjoyed A Secret to Die For—especially seeing Grace and Nick reconnect after so many years and discover healing and romance amidst all the action. It’s a thrilling, sweet, and all-around entertaining read.

Thanks to Revell Reads, I received a complimentary copy of A Secret to Die For and the opportunity to provide an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review, and all the opinions I have expressed are my own. ( )

Psychologist Grace Callahan has a secret. A Secret to Die For. Only, she doesn’t know it. When her client is found murdered and her own life is threatened, she is determined to honor her client’s memory by helping the police find his killer.

It’s Detective Nate Quinn’s first day back to work and he’s not entirely sure he should have been cleared from his medical leave. Nate is suffering from PTSD after a bombing killed several of his coworkers, including his partner. But then he learns that Grace, his old friend from college, is involved in the case he’s been assigned. Now he’s determined to protect his friend, stop the bad guys and prove to any doubters (including himself) that he’s ready to be back in the line of duty.

This was an entertaining read! The plot and crime were really well planned. The action began immediately and continued throughout the entire book. There were tender moments of pause in between the action when Grace and Nate became reacquainted, bonding on their shared experiences with trauma and loss. It was in these moments that faith was shared and reminders of God’s love were strongly present.

I liked this book! I recommend it to anyone who is a fan of good, clean suspense stories. I did not have the lead criminal correct, so this book did throw me a curve ball for sure!
This was the first time I read a book by Lisa Harris and I do plan to read more. This book included a preview chapter for her next release in the fall of 2019. If the first chapter is any indication as to what the rest of that book will be like, we’re in for another wild ride!

I received a copy of this book from Revell through the Revell Reads Blog Tour Program. A positive review was not required and all opinions are my own. ( )
