Well first off Andy , Barney, Aunt Bee and Opie definitely do not live in this community. Commune might be a more apt description.
Stormy Winters is an adult movie actress who has hit bottom and tries to commit suicide. Dr. Sebastian (Bastian) ----oops forgot his last name--- cares for her and heals more than just her physical wounds. He takes her home with him to E Mayberry because he senses that she is like him, lonely and searching for someone to care about.
Now to say there are some erotic shenanigans going on in our little HOA is an understatement. The more you get into the story and hear the underlying rules and regulations...and how it came to existence...you start hear what sounds an awful like a cult. Owners and pets. Playdates. Collars. It's erotic but kind of off putting so that you can understand why Sunshine (formerly known as Stormy until Bastian renamed her) has her doubts about taking everything at face value.
There are hidden tragic love stories. Oh and did I fail to mention we get this story as a narrative Sunshine is giving to police Detective Tension. (actually name is Tenccione but "Tension is close enough). Needless to say all this talk of sexual freedom and fun is getting to the good detective.
I won't give away the ending but to say that it so brought to mind a book I had to read in high school, The Lottery by Shirley Jackson. That blind devotion to ritual and tradition....scary. Further that with the choice Sunshine makes involving the detective, it's so not where you thought you would be when you started this book.
