Why does this start in 2079 in a land with soldiers, changes wrought by climate and weather? If that’s an important part of the story, then it went well over my head. ( ) This book started in 2079 which was interesting. when Fiona (mostly the narrator of the book) was 102 years old. It started in the 1980s. It was an interesting book about the Skinner family, Noni (the mother), Renee, Caroline, and Fiona and Joe. It went through their lives, mostly interesting. I enjoyed the almost end of the book and not because it was almost over but because how their lives panned out. Thank you Harper Collins for sending me a review copy of this book, which tells the story of of four brothers and sisters (1 brother and three sisters) and their single mother throughout their lifetimes. The comparison drawn by the publisher between The Interestings and The Last Romantics is somewhat apt. I thought that the former was a much fuller look at the characters which made it more literary, while The Last Romantics tries to straddle the use of plot and character development to move the action along. It feels like there may have been more to the story that didn't make it to the final product but overall it's an entertaining read. Prestigeträchtige Auswahlen

When the renowned poet Fiona Skinner is asked about the inspiration behind her iconic work, The Love Poem, she tells her audience a story about her family and a betrayal that reverberates through time. It begins in a big yellow house with a funeral, an iron poker, and a brief variation forever known as the Pause: a free and feral summer in a middle-class Connecticut town. Caught between the predictable life they once led and an uncertain future that stretches before them, the Skinner siblingsâ??fierce Renee, sensitive Caroline, golden boy Joe and watchful Fionaâ??emerge from the Pause staunchly loyal and deeply connected. Two decades later, the siblings find themselves once again confronted with a family crisis that tests the strength of these bonds and forces them to question the life choices they've made and ask what, exactly, they will do for love. A novel that pierces the heart and lingers in the mind, The Last Romantics is also a beautiful meditation on the power of storiesâ??how they navigate us through difficult times, help us understand the past, and point the Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
