Game of Vors by Andrew Orange is an intriguing book. At first, I found myself wondering if I would even finish it, but I began to like and care about the main character Kier. The tale starts in a long distant future, much of which is very different from today but with glimpses of familiarity remaining which keeps you involved. Kier is at the end of his schooling and about to take his final exam, which he just manages to fail. In desperation he calls his powerful, absentee father for help and thus sets in motion a gut wrenching life change for young Kier.

He finds himself thrust into a job he does not want in a remote outpost, but this is where he becomes aware of deep conspiracy, corruption and danger. Kier is a great lead character as he falls short of the usual hero mode, being small, thin and of a nervous character, but he finds personal growth on this nightmare journey he has been forced to undertake.

The book has many unpalatable references to rape which in this new world is almost ignored, which I found hard to read. If you are a fan of dystopian future with lots of political machinations, this is a definite read for you. ( )

I was interested in reading this book, however it left me rather disappointed. I didn’t feel that the story was very cohesive, and the ending left me underwhelmed.

This book also mentions rape of male and female characters numerous times. I don’t feel that it needed to be mentioned as often as it was for the storyline.

I voluntarily reviewed a Copy of this book provided by @voraciousreadersonly. However, the thoughts expressed are totally my own. ( )

I received a free e-book in exchange for my review. (SPOILER ALERT): I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It had a great mixture of intrigue, politics, sci-fi, and betrayal. I found it slightly difficult to follow at times but that did not detract from the pleasure i experienced from reading this book. I truly hope that Mr. Orange is planning on getting a sequel. I really want to see how the story of the outs develops. I have a feeling Mr. Orange would be doing many of us a huge favor should be choose to see where a sequel would take him. Great job on your first book sir! ( )

Came into this book "blind" but I left feeling satisfied. The flow was truly amazing in this book. Character expression was a bit lackluster however, displaying bias in one favour. Overall, strong work. ( )

I received an ebook copy of this title in exchange for an honest review.

Sometimes I find that Sci-Fi novels try just too hard with the background explanations for the various tech and world order, leaving no room for any character development or storytelling.

This is NOT one of those novels. It manages to blend the storytelling with the wider explanations and isn't afraid to shock the reader with character arcs that end prematurely.

If you like a combination of Sci-Fi with Murder-mystery and a bit of political intrigue then I'd recommend this title ( )
