Life post-graduation was supposed to see the launch of paisley-loving Jadyn's art career, or at least an art gallery showing one of her watercolor paintings. Instead, this Pittsburgh native is locked into a low-paying, buttoned-up consultant position with an impossible boss. When another colleague is dismissed, Jadyn inherits extra workload, including the company's biggest client. If she loses him, she's fired. Jadyn people-pleases her way through life, resulting in extra work opportunities and a community classroom of art students. But when two guys appear on her doorstep, she just might not be able to people-please her way out of this love triangle. At the end of the day, she can't please everyone. Then, because of a small spending problem, Jadyn is evicted from her apartment, and she must move in with her know-it-all sister. Jadyn needs to decide between a job transfer that would place her near her love interest, or a full-time art career with all its risks. Stretched like canvas between responsibility and dreams, she must choose. Will practicality always win?… (mehr)

Teal Paisley Tights was a fun read with a main character who I could be friends with. Brutt, created a book that flowed well set in a fun and colorful world filled with equally fun and colorful characters. I quickly read this book and was sad that I read it that fast. For me this book does make me want to pick up other books to try from Barbara Brutt. I suggest Teal Paisley Tights for readers who like to feel as though they can be friends with the main character and immerse themselves into their world enjoying the craziness that ensues and subsequent romance. Allow a full, long day for this family-friendly contemporary urban romantic comedy set in Pittsburgh and starting in late summer as painter Jayden Simon fights exhaustion in her job as a consultant with Davenport Cities Consulting.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. ( )

Barbara Brutt's debut novel is a combination of genres. We have Christian Fiction, Chick-Lit mixed with a bit of romantic comedy and family drama. Jadyn is a compassionate, creative, and hard-working young Christian woman. She’s also a hot mess. Not being able to say no to anyone, it leaves her little time to do the thing she loves the most, work on her art. She is overworked, underpaid and a huge people pleaser. She wants to make her mother and her sister proud of her, yet she really does not like the direction her job is taking her and now, being evicted leaves her another batch of problems to deal with. Throw in two guys, one she grew up with and one she works with, who both seem to have their eyes on her and she has more on her plate than any normal human being can deal with. What will she decide to do with her life? Will she listen to the messages that God is trying to send her about her future path?

I loved the character's voice in this novel. I could almost hear her talking to me, although, if she had been conversing with me, I would have had a lot of words of advise. Her sister and mother were great supporting characters in that they loved and supported her, but didn't push her to think about her decisions. The two male characters were difficult to like. They were both like Jekyll and Hyde in various parts of the story. I like the way Ethan treated her respectfully, but there was something a bit false about his character and don't get me started about Travis. Having said all that, I will say it was a satisfying story, but there was not much to the story. I did like the ending and the fact that Jadyn finally listened to her heart to decide what to do with her life, but as I finished the book, I just thought okay, that was nice. I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by Just Read. The rating, ideas and opinions expressed are my own. ( )

Debut authors are a bit of a gamble (but more often than not, a delight to find). Add to that a somewhat dying genre, chick lit, and the odds stack up against a book. But Teal Paisley tights rises above the tentative strikes against it and hits a solid triple.

Jadyn is a scattered young woman trying to find a balance between the job that pays the bills and what she loves to do. When things go wrong, they really go off the rails. Between her demanding job, a budding romance, her family, and her art, Jadyn can’t keep all the balls she’s juggling in the air.

In fact, there’s so much going on that some things get a little lost in the shuffle. The romance aspect takes a backseat and feels like a sudden huge shift just happens with no build up, but it didn’t deter from the overall story too much.

Barbara Brutt’s character is a living-beyond-her-means people-pleaser who is both relatable and likable. Teal Paisley Tights gives readers a taste of Pittsburgh seasoned with the art scene as Jadyn discovers what things in life are worth fighting for and which are okay to let go of.
