Goldilocks and the Bear, is a fluffy, holiday short story based on a retelling of ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. It stars Gildea ‘Gil’ Hurst, and Bruin Jeffrey. First, before I go on to the review, I want to mention that I love the cover. I don’t know who designed it, but it’s refreshing compared to the typical one or two male torso figures usually found in M/M. This cover is cheeky and adorable at the same time. This book is a very quick read at around thirty-six pages. The relationship builds up over the span of a week. The writing jumps days, but it doesn’t disrupt the flow of the story. Even though this is a short, right off the bat, the characters fit together, I could believe them as a couple. Their banter is funny and flirty, and I like humor in the stories I read. I do have to mention the parts I wasn’t keen on, and it comes down to personal preference, which might not bother others. I don’t like first person. I find few books that do it well enough not to annoy me so I don’t end up disliking the character speaking. Gil and Bruin didn’t annoy me in this case, but they did break the fourth wall and talked to the reader. I really dislike characters breaking the fourth wall, being it a book, on stage or in a movie. I want to escape into make believe, not listen to someone as if they were talking to me in person. The tense used, made the sentences read as clipped and in the present. Again, this is personal preference, ymmv. Overall, I enjoyed the characters and the plot. Goldilocks and the Bear is a cute, humorous holiday read. I personally, wasn’t a fan of the writing style, but I’d still recommend it. I give this book, 3 Stars. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest and unbiased opinion. Nice story, although I found the end a bit bland. ( )
