Book source ~ Purchased Captain Randall Denham is retired from the British Army and now he is the bodyguard to Lady Portia Butler. He had no idea what he was getting himself into by agreeing to guard her. Lady Portia is a unique individual in more ways than one and he has no business lusting after her or wishing she would command him in bed. Little does he know Portia is also lusting after him. But before they can address the situation, her family rears their collectively ugly head and now all bets are off. Will they win this final hand? Ahhhh. I love a strong man who wants to submit to a strong woman. Nice to see it in an historical romance! Portia is brave and fierce, but hamstrung by her damn family. They’ve let her get away with quite a lot (most of which they don’t even know about hehe) but her dumbass brother has decided to put his foot down. Ugh. Men. The world building takes a back seat to the characters and that’s perfectly fine because the characters are wonderful. If you like historical romance with nommy sex and a strong woman taking command then don’t pass this one up. Zeige 3 von 3 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

I was excited about this one because it had been built up a bit in the previous books and It's a bodyguard romance, which I tend to really enjoy. Unfortunately, the things I like about bodyguard romances didn't show up here. If there is a bodyguard in the couple, I am expecting a scene where he has to save her from something. That never really happened here. It's fine if an author wants to subvert that and have the heroine save herself but that's not exactly what happens either. I think that would have made a lot of sense, given the nature of their romantic relationship but there was just something missing for me.
Otherwise, I really enjoyed this pairing. I liked how caring Denham was, (side note, do we think that's pronounced like denim?) and I liked that Portia is a bit of a spit-fire. We really saw a lot of different types of relationship dynamics explored in this series and this rounds that out. I would have enjoyed seeing Denham's submissive side more but I am part of the way through the book 5 Christmas wrap up so maybe will see more in their story in that book. This is was still a great installment and I'm so happy I read all the way through this series! ( )
