I'm always happy when I get a new Burrowes book. And I looked forward to the story by Ms. Romain as it sounded interesting; a story about a luthier sounds right up my alley.
However, I was disappointed by the Romain novella. Perhaps it would have been better if presented in a full book rather than a novella, but the relationship between Rowena and Simon, while sweet, never seemed to really develop on the pages. Maybe there was more back stuff I missed, but being told he dropped in occasionally to chat for a few minutes didn't seem enough to me. I did like the parts about the shop and how Rowena worked on the instruments.
Ms. Burrowes never disappoints, and I really enjoyed the romance between Thaddeus and Edith. He's so proper yet ultimately a very kind man. I was surprised at the ending. I sort of knew the author of the scandalous book but was very surprised at the reasons. Another good read from this author. ( )
