Reading this book, I couldn’t help but think of the movie The Unsinkable Molly Brown. Like Molly Brown, Bella Dallas is brash and tough being the only girl in her family, she knows how to handle a rifle and handle herself in a fight if need be; just look at what happened when she arrives in the town of Benson Creek, and begins to have scraps in the middle of the street. So, will she be able to transform herself into a lady just like Molly Brown eventually became to please her strait-laced, intended, banker Simon Macafoy in the manner he wants her to be.
But unlike Molly, Belle is resolute to exchange her male-like attire for a corset and frilly stuff lady-like women wear in order to capture the heart of the guy she was sent to meet and marry as a mail-order bride, in the time-frame he’s given her. With the help from the other ladies in the town, Belle begins her lessons to become a lady; just like Eliza Doolittle did with the assistance of Professor Henry Higgins did in My Fair Lady, but then you can’t teach an old dog new tricks as old habits aren’t easy to get rid of. And just like some horses aren’t meant to be tame, some people can be the same way.
Since I read/review quite a number of Christian books, I love reading a simple, sweet, humorous romance stories like this book. And given it has a mail-order bride element, so much the better; as I love reading what unknown risks women are willing to take to find the HEA their hearts desires, as a mail-order bride.
For having given me and her readers a delightful, historical romance story involving mail-order brides, I’ve given the author, Emma Morgan, the 5 STARS she’s gotten from me. ( )
