I'm an outcast and a loner, named for death itself. Fate wasn't supposed to have plans for me.But then she came back-the girl I once kissed in a thorn-covered chapel in the woods. She came back, and I could no more resist her than I could pry out my own heart. And by some trick of fate, she wants me as much as I want her. The only problem? She also wants the man who owns Thornchapel, Auden Guest. And so do I.Eight years ago, I did something to Auden, something terrible. He hurt me back the only way he knew how, and so here we are: our hatred seasoned with pain and my loneliness seasoned with longing. The only thing we can agree on is Proserpina Markham, and she wants us to find a way to be together-all three of us. If Auden wants to earn her as his submissive, then he has to earn me as well. But with the discovery of bones behind the altar and the carnal revel of Beltane fast approaching, it's becoming clear that Thornchapel's secrets are much deeper and older than any of us could have ever guessed. And no matter how bright and merry a feast of sparks may be, it's always followed by ashes. And darkness.… (mehr)

I didn’t like this one as much as the prequel, and here’s the main reason — Proserpina was a greedy, whiny little… sub, and I wanted to slap her SO many times (but I'm sure she’d enjoy that…) Sigh. Why can’t she be more like sweet, sweet Delphine? This series would be so much better if she wasn’t the main heroine, in my opinion.

Also, there was way too much religious talk in this volume, and that scene with Proserpina and Becket in the church was just completely unnecessary. It would’ve been way more meaningful if the first time he’d broken his vows was during the Beltane ritual, with all of them present, and not only that greedy, selfish little… But then again, it was probably super-hot for people who fetishize priests/churches/etc. Not so much for me, as I’m leery AF of everything even remotely related to Catholicism.

I was gonna rate it 3 stars, maybe 3.5 if I was feeling generous, even though I really liked some parts of it — Auden not being too proud to admit he needed guidance and taking lessons from sexy Mistress Rebecca; finally finding out just WTF had happened between Auden and Saint in the past; their reconciliation… — but there was no freaking way it was getting 4 stars from me, nope, nuh-uh… until that ending!!! 4.25 stars

Not as good as the 1st book but still really amazing.
There are a couple of areas that lagged for me.
The steam was over and beyond hot and steamy.
And VERY naughty!

The intrigue and mystery of Thornchapel and all involved is compelling.
I loved it.
Looking forward to #3!

I'm completely in love with this series, Sierra Simone and this beautiful poly ship.

But what the fuck was that ending? I need the next book like tomorrow holy shit. ( )
