I’ve read a couple of very popular time travel books (The Time Traveler’s Wife and Jude Devereaux’s A Knight in Shining Armor). So when Forever, Lately came to my attention, I figured I’d give it a try, especially since I’m a Regency romance fan. And, let me tell you, this one is enchanting. This book is so clever. From who Claire is transported to her struggles and challenges in both eras. The fact she’s an author who is excited to use her first-hand knowledge of regency is also a fantastic plot device. Plus, she’s so enjoyable inquisitive when in 1816. And Julian St. John. Talk about a swoon-worthy hero. I loved some of the humor written around St. John in the second half of the book. Burkard throws some delicious twists and turns into this one, making it even better. Whether or not you’re a fan of the time travel genre, the characters and romance in this one are worth the read. This has been such a wonderful time slip story that I refused to put it down until I finished it. The author has done such an outstanding job of writing a story that slips back and forth in time without missing a beat. The time period is very intriguing as we go back to England in 1816. I enjoyed reading about the history of this time period. What I loved most about this book was the creative way the author told a story. Authors do research when they are writing a book to make it as authentic to the time period as possible. What if an author could time travel to the period they were writing about? Better yet, what if they became part of the story and saw the characters in person from the book they were writing? This is exactly what happens in this fairy tale, time travel story. Claire is beside herself trying to write a book that someone will publish. She is a very determined young woman who hasn't really felt like she fit in. The cottage she is living in is in danger of being torn down and she desperately wants to save it. We do get a glimpse of what her relationship was like with her mother which helped me understand how difficult it was to be confidant at times. The author takes us back in time where we meet the dashing Julian St. John. What a catch he is and someone has their eyes on him. I loved the mystery that followed Julian and the woman who will stop at nothing to have him. I could see Claire as she came face to face with Julian. What a shock for her to meet the character she is writing about in a time slip story that has all the elements of a great movie. There are some surprises in the story that shocked me and I became so involved in the story that I tuned out the world around me. It was worth it as I continued to read how Claire slips from one time period to the present. The story is very easy to follow and gives us a lesson in following your heart. I received an arc copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion. Imagine present-day lady author meets Regency period man, and at first believes she is just dreaming. Add in a grandmother who mysteriously vanished and a cottage that is about to be demolished and a few other plot twists and you have Forever, Lately. This story has to be one of the most interesting takes on time travel I have read. I love how Claire and St. John come together, even when he does not necessarily believe her tale of time travel. This book contains a bit of danger, intrigue, adventure, high-speed car chases and more. The inclusion of God and faith adds a lot to this story as do the plot twists and turns. The author does an excellent job of talking about God without being preachy. Add in Clarissa, the Regency lady who either wants St John for herself or plans to kill him and the story develops even more. The characters are well-developed. The storyline kept my interest. The settings were amazingly described. Truly this is a book worth reading. So check it out for yourself. I received a copy of this book for my fair and honest review. ‘There are people who think that things that happen in fiction do not really happen. They are wrong.’ - Neil Gaiman Claire Channing is an aspiring author that loves to write about Regency England. So naturally the manuscript she is working on is set in 1816. This book is going to be the one that makes her famous! Living in her missing grandmother’s cottage, she has found the perfect place to research, dream and pen the novel that would reach the top of the charts. That is until something totally unexpected happens. Imagine how easy research would be if you could just transport yourself into that time period. The author has given us incredible detail of the gowns, the setting and even the food. One has to wonder if time travel is part of her life... What a fun book to read! I found myself on the edge of my seat, cheering them on, believing in the perfect ending. I received this ARC through CelebrateLit. The five star rating was in no way solicited and all impressions and opinions are my own. Zeige 5 von 5 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
