"A trio of women break bad after after too much wine, too many secrets, and too perfect inspiration from the bestseller they discussed at book club. No one is exactly sure what happened when night fell, but in the morning there's one dead body and three women with a lot to lose. Somehow these women begin discussing the ways they might bury the body of an unfaithful husband. Of course, it's nothing more than a joke. None of them would ever mistake these plans as reality...However, at brunch the next morning, the women are alarmed by a visit from the police announcing that a man is dead... in a way eerily similar to the previous night's best laid plans. Did one woman take everything a step too far, or is the truth really more twisted than fiction?"--… (mehr)

I love Gina LaManna's "Lacey Luzzi Mafia Mystery" series and this is the first stand alone I've read by her. I was not disappointed and really liked the writing style.
Penny, Anne, and Eliza are friends, foes, accomplices, murderers? Two of them are married and one of them is single. All of them are liars along with their spouses. Murder, blackmail, theft, half truths & lies. The books starts with a murder trial transcript and works it's way backward from there revealing each month prior on the happenings between the woman and men along with the court transcripts. Everyone has motive and opportunity and all are unhappy with their lives culminating in a twisty tale on how far a person will go to eliminate someone who stands in their way. One has to ask themselves how much do you really know about your closest friends and their lives and how much do they really know about yours after the facades break down. A great mystery that will keep you guessing and changing who your are suspecting right till the last page ( )

Who murdered Roman?

Roman is one of those men that can easily manipulate woman - he knows just what to say and flirts to get what he wants. But who wants him dead?

Eliza? The wife that suspects Roman of having an affair?

Anne? Eliza's bestie who suspects her own husband of having an affair?

Penny? Newest to the friend circle, but with enough secrets of her own?

Step by step, secrets are revealed and the true identity of the killer is kept until just the perfect moment.

Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read this and give my honest opinion. ( )

Three Single Wives
By : Gina Lamanna

Annie and Eliza are best friends and have been for the last 25 years.
Eliza is married to Roman. A womanizing dirt bag full of secrets. And he’s smart. Super smart. Very under estimated. Eliza is smarter than everyone. Or so she thinks. She’s also very plastic, materialistic and super realistic with herself. But has no delusions about her fake life.

Nine moments prior to the trial the story begins....each chapter is a snippet of information for each character. Followed by the transcript to the trial in progress.
(My fav type of books , y’all know I love a back and forth book. ( )

This breezy yet sharp read kept me on my toes until the final reveal. The story begins shortly before the ill fated book club event, and we get to know the inner lives of each woman and how they came together. I found myself really relating to Penny and Anne more so than I did than Eliza, and I looked foreward to their chapters. I never felt like enough time was devoted to Eliza as much as the other women, and thus I couldn’t connect to her. The dialogue was real and you felt like you were eavesdropping on a group of girlfriends at brunch, and the secrets and situations the characters got into weren’t far fetched like in other domestic thrillers. In between each chapter are court transcripts from Roman’s murder trial, which helped add more depth to the secrets the women were hiding. The final reveal as to Roman’s killer came as a complete surprise to me. ⁣
I quite enjoyed the character development and overall mystery of this book, and plan to seek out Gina LaManna’s other works. ( )

Friends, Book Club and Alcohol, throw in a sleaze bag of a husband, whatever could go wrong! What would you do for a friend? Fun read with a familiar plot but lots of secrets and twists. Characters have many layers, and are developed well throughout the book. The situations are real enough to empathize. Writing was fast paced enough to keep the pages turning. Even though I guessed the killer, it was fun to see it all come together. Another enjoyable read by this author!

Thanks to Ms. LaManna, Sourcebooks Landmark and NetGalley for this ARC. Opinion is mine alone. ( )
