In addition to planning her wedding in the near future Mixologist Lily Locke didn't really need any additional problems to solve - alas what one wants is usually not what one gets. It's especially terrible news when a Ranger is murdered on the busiest street on the Isle - Lily and her soon to be husband, Ranger X - find themselves swept up in finding the most ruthless and cunning murderer they've come across yet.

Lily's problems never seem to stop at just one crisis. One of her cousins have disappeared, a little old lady will NOT stop following her and a vicious hunter has escaped from a prison that's never been breached. Tensions on the Isle are at an all time high and Ranger X is treating the latest case like a lifeline, Lily is worried for everyone's sake. Through all of it Lily is forced to make a decision that could potentially alter her life with Ranger X, permanently.

I really do love all of Gina LaManna's magical books and I've been reading ARC's mostly from authors I hadn't read before (which isn't a bad thing) but I really wanted to read something I KNEW that I would love for a little bit of a break. If you're looking for a fun and light-hearted series with a little bit of magic and romance to soothe your mind from stressing out I highly recommend this series. The books in either of Gina LaManna's magical series are best not read out of order - they really won't make sense otherwise.

“It scares me sometimes, the way this world is going,” Ranger X said. “The darkness, the murder, the greed. It terrifies me to my core, makes me wonder why I dedicate my life to a job that is impossible to accomplish. No matter how much good I do in this world, it will never be enough to offset all the evil. Then, I come home, I see your smile, and I have hope.”

In this installment of the The Magic in Mixology Mystery Series we are introduced to two new named role witches/wizards like that of our Mixologist. Reserve Detective Dani DeMarco from Mysteries of the Sixth Borough is also mentioned in passing by Ranger X with relevance to the Ranger case being investigated. There were some surprising twists that I honestly did not see coming and we'll have to wait for further novels to see how some of them turn out. Spelldriver was just as fast paced and engaging as the other five novels in the series. The plots of each book do not feel like they're just washed, rinsed and repeated. It is nice to have surprises even in as far as the sixth installment in a series.

Spelldriver is honestly like the other books in the series only containing light violence/death and pretty PG romance. I read this book with my Kindle Unlimited subscription. I highly recommend this book (and series!) to readers who enjoy the lighter side of magic books, mystery and romance novels. ( )
