I was too isolated. I was about to be evicted. I made a final desperate call to the man who ruined my life, but he didn't come for me. Someone else did. And then there was Seven. When I first woke in the cell, I thought he was my captor, but he is a pawn, like me. Seven is beautiful and kind. I want him so much I can barely breathe. He wants to protect me from our captor, but he can't. We are both locked inside a game neither of us can ever hope to win, and even though it's wrong, I'm starting to want both men, not just the good one...the monster as well. This is a stand-alone dark contemporary romance.… (mehr)

Holy crap, what a mind-fuck - although it HAD occurred to me at one point that Seven was being deceptive, if only because I've entertained a similar plot bunny. Really good. ( )

3.5 Solid Stars.

I liked it. It was entertaining, but it needed More
It is highly erotic. Great adult steamy scenes.

The ending was my favorite part. It finally felt dangerous. A nice taste of true dark.
It was the only part that felt truly dark to me.

My problems are with the female character.
She cries so much from page one, throughout the entire story, it really got on my nerves.
Also that her situation didn't really ever feel 'dangerous'.
It felt like she was a knowing player in The Game. In other words, a fantasy she was playing out with her 'Captors'. The dialog from all the characters felt scripted and didn't help make it feel anymore dangerous.

So, light on the dark. High octane on the sex scenes. Those were awesome.

Different than i was expecting

This author is queen at giving the unexpected. This definitely had a twist I don't see coming. It is rare that happens to me as I usually can see the twist.

I did want some further explanation in a few areas. The why and how this all started in particular. ( )

This book caused me so many emotions - at first I was mad, I didn't like it or the characters, and I didn't understand what was happening. Then, a bit into the book I got an inkling, I decided that if this thing didn't happen I'd be very very VERY mad, to my delight, the book turned itself around so hard I got whiplash. I began to endear myself to the MC, I wanted to see how the story would conclude, I wanted my brain to be right! Roller coaster, that's all I have to say. ( )

Oh my dear and sweet fluffy lord. This book. It did things to my brain. It is intense. It is dark. It is twisted. It is very Kitty Thomas. I was never able to figure out what was going to happen, and I really love that.

Kate goes through a whole lot in this story. She never knows what's going to happen. There's so much going on behind the scenes, and there is no way that she can ever see the shape of the game or guess the player. She can only see the moves that she has to make, and why she thinks she makes them, but it's never that easy or the way that it happens. I think I still don't know everything even having read it. ( )
