( ) This is a story about four sheep that retire from the farm and move to the big city. The sheep, however, discover the difficulty of finding a place to belong. They try many different things before they find the right place for them. I rely enjoyed this book because I once owned sheep and always like to see things that can relate to them. I can relate to the sheep’s struggle for acceptance, and I know children also face very similar feelings in the classroom. The characters are strong but rely on one another, which carries the plot very well. In the classroom, I might present this book near the beginning of the year when the students are having to adjust to new surroundings and feelings. It would be a great model of how everyone has a place. Another idea would be to use it as a transition into a lesson about farm animals. I would have the kids make their own story about farm animals. When four sheep retire and move to the city, they make several unsuccessful attempts to find new friends. Sadly, they just can’t seem to fit in with city dwellers. One day, to their delight, they learn of an upcoming Baabaasheep Quartet contest. They feel sure that entering the contest will help them to find friends. The quartet practices every day and every where in preparation for the big event. Sure enough, their fine singing voices allow this fun tale to end on a happy note.
