I always knew I was different. From a young age, my mind has been plagued with things only I could see. Never knowing if these visions were real or just hallucinations, I learned how to lock them down and ignore them. I learned to take solace in the relative anonymity of city life and find peace in the rainy days my city of Seattle is known for. But just when I think my life is getting on track and my dreams are achievable, a moment of weakness causes me to learn a hard and fast lesson. My entire existence has been a lie. Now I'm faced with a new reality that's as implausible as it is fantastical. Filled with realms and veils, light and dark, fae and daemons, gods and angels-things I don't understand but am forced to acknowledge. It doesn't help that the man teaching me about my unique gifts is the gorgeously handsome Carrick Byrne, one of Seattle's richest and most powerful men. He intimidates, annoys, and intrigues me all at the same time. I don't trust him and yet there's no one else to help me. No longer certain who to put my faith in, what to believe, or how I fit into it all, one revelation is clear . . . The world as I know it will never be the same again.… (mehr)

The Revelation of Light and Dark by Sawyer Bennett
Chronicles of the Stone Veil #1

What a wonderful series this is going to be! At first, I wondered if it might be slow as Finley told us about her life and work and such but by page 60-ish the pace picked up and I was well and truly hooked.

What I liked:
* Finley: a fraternal twin, coffee shop manager, good friend, with an ability unlike any other human. She always thought she had “issues” but at 28 learns more of the truth than she knew before.
* Carrick: beautiful, wealthy, aloof, an enigma, helpful to Finley, a bit selfish and yet giving. I am intrigued and can’t wait to find out more about him.
* Rainey, Adira and Myles: Finley’s roommates and good friends.
* Zaid: a deamon who works with/for Carrick
* Titus: interesting man who trains Finley to be a bit more lethal than Dough who taught her mixed martial arts.
* Rich: The owner of the coffee shop
* The whole myth that grounds the series – the stone explanation –
* The way the light-dark are explained.
* The world building and how everything is explained…dimensions, creatures, auras, all of it
* The introduction to most of the God/desses and what they represent – am interested in learning more about them.
* Intrigued by “The Prophecy” and wondering what the prophecy is and how Finley and Carrick (and others) w ill be involved in the fulfilling of it.
* That Finley is strong and capable.
* All of it really except…

What I didn’t like:
* Not sure if I really dislike Finley’s sister, Fallon, but do think she is not always as kind to her sister as she could be and her fiancé, Blain seems selfish and egotistical.
* Having to wait for the next book!

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely!

Thank you to Insklinger PR and the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
